Opinions on the name Finnigan?

If you like Malcolm, what about using Colm.
Or Fintan if you want an Irish 'Fin' name that's a little less used.

The Michael Finnegan song is all that comes to mind...

Couldn't even tell you where I learnt that song, but I'm fairly young and not even in the UK.

Wulfric is cool though.

I've not really got an opinion either way on Finnegan but Merlin is by far and away the coolest name ever. I do like Wulfric.

OP, Finnigan doesn't sound to me like a brother to Edmund and Merlin. And it is a surname and would sound very "Irish-American" IYKWIM..

What about Finneas [ c.f Julia Roberts, c.c.f Anthony Trollope] ? Its a legit Irish name and you are obviously up for a more unusual name?

Or one of the other two syllable Finn names?

Finnigan is a surname (but one I would probably expect to be spelled 'Finnegan' anyway).

How about Fintan instead?

I think the way finnegan is pronounced it would tend to rhyme with merlin, so sounds a bit odd with the other two.

If you like wulfric, how about Wolfgang as well?

To me (Irish), Finnegan is a surname and Finnigan as a first name seems weird (and misspelt).

Finn or Fionn (pronounced the same) can be a name in itself. Or Fintan or Fionnbarr/Finnbar are also nice options?

Fionn isn't pronounced the same as Finn, it's pronounced Fyun (all one syllable).

My main objection to it is it looks like it's spelt wrong, needs to have an e. After that, it is a bit Irish-American, but if he'll mostly be Finn it's not that bad and I've always liked the sound and the surname. The 'wake' association would concern me more than the rhyme.

But perhaps the other options people have suggested would be easier if it will be shortened anyway day-to-day.
