Lulu for a boy

Lucien nn Lulu (Lucien pronounced with a soft c like Lucy, not ch as in Italian like Luciano).

Lulu would probably only last though childhood.

Not expecting currently, just thinking for the future.

Use Lucien and see what nickname evolves. Predetermined nicknames are very contrived.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 27/10/2016 08:06

No. No. No.

UnicornPee · 27/10/2016 08:07

Lucien sounds like the worst kind of baddy in a film.
Lulu for a girl = kid will be bullied.
May as well call him dildo or poo

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/10/2016 08:41

NO.

Loyly · 27/10/2016 08:42

No

Blu · 27/10/2016 08:47

Lucien yes, shortened to Lou or Louie, fine.
Lulu no.

albertcampionscat · 27/10/2016 08:48

Please no.

I mean, it's fine as a baby pet name, just like snickerdoodlepumpkinwibblypops is, but not as a common or garden name for a child.

Chippednailvarnishing · 27/10/2016 08:48

Takes me back to the days of Freemans catalogues.

EleanorRigby123 · 27/10/2016 08:52

Lucien, Louis, Lucas all great boys names. Can shorten to Lou or Louie.

But please don't inflict LuLu on a child - particularly not a boy. It will make their childhood miserable.

Ankleswingers · 27/10/2016 08:52

only 1 Scoop

Grin

Yes, I remember that! Awful!

idontlikealdi · 27/10/2016 08:52

Nope.

HardcoreLadyType · 27/10/2016 08:58

It's fine.

And you will probably end up calling him something else (as a nickname) entirely, anyway.

And Lucien is a lovely name.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 27/10/2016 09:01

Lucien is a LOVELY name and a favourite of mine, but Christ alive you can't call him Lulu. I agree that predetermined nicknames are contrived too.

I know a Lucien whose mum calls him Loosh.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/10/2016 09:02

Can't believe anyone would seriously suggest Lulu for a boy, even as a nickname. Is this a wind up?

Kids can be bullied enough anyway - don't FGS provide easy fodder with their name.

RebelandaStunner · 27/10/2016 09:25

Wtf? Lulu for a boy is madness!

heron98 · 27/10/2016 09:27

Lucien is a nice name.

Lulu is not.

HTH

And I'm not sure you can decide on twee nicknames in advance, in my experience they just kind of evolve organically.

Floggingmolly · 27/10/2016 09:29

This has to be a joke, surely? Why are you so desperate for a boy called Lulu??

TheNaze73 · 27/10/2016 09:31

No, never ever in the history of life. It's awful

Buttonmoonb4tea · 27/10/2016 09:40

Oh fuck no

Politely saying no

insan1tyscartching · 27/10/2016 09:49

I think nicknames evolve so I don't think you generally choose a name with the express desire of having a particular nickname. Dd1 I call Lou, her name is in no way similar to Lou it doesn't even begin with L. Dd2 at school calls herself and is referred to as Lulu because her name naturally leads to that nickname but at home, from her being tiny, she has been called Pearl.
I think in the privacy of your own home you'd get away with calling your son whatever you want but outside of home calling him Lulu would leave him open to ridicule.

griffinsss · 27/10/2016 12:27

Lulu was quite common for little boys where I grew up (not the uk) in the late 80s/90s! I'm very glad I asked the question here now!

I didn't mean Lulu as a nickname in the terms of putting it as a preferred name at preschool, or introducing him as such - more similar to how you might nickname a child Em if their name was Emily, or Ru or Rupie for Rupert.

If I have a Lucien, I'll try my best to just call him Lu or his full name, or see what evolves! Thanks for the responses.

I feel like a prize idiot now BlushConfused

I'm with bikerunski.

Lucien is a lovely name op. I really wouldn't worry about nicknames yet. Just see what evolves. That's how nicknames seem to work best IMHO. I know a couple of sibling DCs where they have been called predetermined nicknames (shortened versions of their full names) from the moment they were born. Each to their own and all but it does feel a little bit forced.

OzzieFem · 27/10/2016 14:43

If you want a shortened nickname like Lu why not call a son Lewis? Lulu for a boy is quite frankly appalling.

Tarttlet · 27/10/2016 14:44

By all means call him Lulu as a cutesy, baby-talk nickname! I know a few hulking, six-foot+ young men whose mums still occasionally call them Moo...

albertcampionscat · 27/10/2016 15:36

Please don't feel like an idiot OP! Lucien's a great name.
