What's your thoughts on this name? Does it sum up a image if you hear this name?

This is actually my name and all my life I have hated it, always seemed really old fashioned and boring, my friends were Nicole's, Rachel's, Ellie's, Kelly's, Claire's etc.

I'm mid 30's now and it's just dawned on me that actually I may like it... though I keep saying it out loud and it seems strange

I like it because Ive only ever met nice ones...and Im not particularly royalist so the previous pp's comment doesnt apply to me!

TwentyCups · 22/10/2016 00:43

I like it, you can run with Kate or Katie as well which is a nice nickname.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/10/2016 00:45

I think it's the best name ever Smile

StCecilia · 22/10/2016 00:51

Love it - I know several Catherines and a Kathryn. It a very under used name imo

ClaudiaJean2016 · 22/10/2016 04:56

I like it, but prefer it spelled Kathryn.

AmeliaJack · 22/10/2016 05:08

I think it's a lovely classic name and think it's very pretty in all spellings.

Namechangeforcatherine · 22/10/2016 09:12

I'm the same as you OP. I hated my name growing up but now I love it and I'm proud of it. My full name is Catherine Elizabeth but I'm a couple of years older than the dutchess, so she's the copy cat Grin

I met one little Catherine at an NTC group and it really suited her. Two of my great aunties were Catherine and my 2 year old niece is Catherine. I was named after a friend of my mother's who was always known as Beth and my mum thought it was sad that she didn't go by Catherine.

It's timeless.

Catherine is a name that won't date, I think. Like Elizabeth, Ann etc - is it the queens thing?

I like the NNs too- Cathy, Cath, Kate(or Cait), Katy, Kitty, Kit

olddogsnewtricks · 23/10/2016 14:06

It's my name too and I've always loved it. Yes, it was very common when I was growing up (always 3 or 4 of us in each class) but I still think it's a great name!

crayfish · 23/10/2016 14:15

I think it's lovely. It's classic and timeless, I know a 4 year old one, several in their 30s and one in their late 60s - it's that kind of name.

bluebunnyblue · 24/10/2016 16:15

I have a 2yo Catherine, named after her great grandmother, and am very pleased to see the (mostly) positive opinions on here, which chime with my own feelings about the name - strong, feminine, timeless.

Now, do any of you Catherine-lovers have any suggestions for my dd2, due in January? ;)

altik · 24/10/2016 16:24

I love it, it is my daughter's name. She's the only girl with her name in her primary school. So nowadays it is unusual, without being too off the beaten track. I also think it is a beautiful, timeless classic. Feminine without being little girly.

Blue: other names I like and think are of a similar vein...

Elizabeth (would be my first choice if I had DD3!)
Susannah
Annabelle
Sophia
Helena

If I'm being honest I find it a bit dull. Sensible and dull.

Boredenough2bhere · 28/10/2016 21:28

I absolutely love it. So classic, elegant and timeless.

stonygreysoil · 29/10/2016 10:14

Catherine is timeless. Was Catherine Earnshaw dull?

grannytomine · 30/10/2016 09:51

It is lovely and is my favourite spelling.

DanicaJones · 30/10/2016 10:32

Lovely and Kate is a lovely nickname.

JunebabyT · 30/10/2016 15:43

It's a lovely name, a good classic. Might put it on the list actually!

PaperdollCartoon · 30/10/2016 20:47

It's lovely and classic. Lots of possible nn's which I like. Works for all ages.

Yika · 30/10/2016 20:49

I love it and also know a primary age Katherine. I think it's classic, doesn't sound dated to me (but then I'm old).

BestIsWest · 30/10/2016 20:53

Lovely. It was my grandmother's name (nn Cassie) and I know Catherines of all ages. Classic name.
