Love NO boy names :(

24 weeks pregnant with dc1. Before finding out the sex I had a huge list of girl names and no boy names at all. I just can't find any boy names that I like, never mind love Hmmgirl names are so beautiful and easy to shortlist, why is finding a boy name so hard! Sad

Some boy names that I think are OK
-Leo
-Toby
-Freddie
-Arthur
-Harrison

Still all seem so dull to me. Thinking of using a name that could be used for a boy or a girl. Suggestions on this could be helpful.

Elliott is my all time favourite boys name, also love Cameron.

buckyou · 20/10/2016 15:56

I'm 24 weeks as well and feeling similar to you. We seem to have settled on Arthur Joseph at the moment but I don't love it.

stealthbanana · 20/10/2016 17:20

Also the same. Between DH and I there is only one name we like, and it's...James. Ho hum. We are really struggling!

strawberrypenguin · 20/10/2016 17:24

Benedict? Close to Benjamin but different enough.
Dexter
Maximilian
Francis (unisex but this is the male spelling)
Taylor (also unisex)

RockinHippy · 20/10/2016 17:29

Kirkland
Kitson,
Franklyn
Malachy
Jediah

NameChange30 · 20/10/2016 17:30

Leo and Toby are two of my favourites!

I also like:
Max (prefer Maxim to Maximilian)
Eli / Elijah
Ezra

But I would vote for Toby Smile

I So feel ur pain!
I could be writing this, except I'm due Any day now & still have Nothing I love.
Until this morning it was going to be between Hugo & Thomas, but we've since agreed we don't Love those either.
I have a list of about ten names id happily have used. Boys names IMO are Definitely harder ! 😭

Btw, are you giving your child your surname as well as your DP's surname, or just his?

Although I suggested Eli and Ezra, I don't think they go with Elliott as a stand-alone surname. Toby was already my fave but I also think it goes best with the surname.

Please consider giving your child your own surname too.

NameChange30 · 21/10/2016 09:21

Noah would also work (lovely name but very popular atm if that bothers you)

litttlemisssunshine · 21/10/2016 10:16

Thank you all! Some lovely suggestions but still not one that really stands out for me. I don't think there ever will be in all honestly so I'm going to have to go with one I just like, which is a bit of a shame. I shouldn't be so fussyHmmI quite like Ezra (suggested a few times) but to me it is too much of a mouthful with Elliott. glad to know I'm not the only one who finds boy names so much harder than girl names!

I was going to give him just my partners surname, my name doesn't sound right double barrelled with Elliott and is a very common surname. Don't want to use just my name as when we marry I will be taking his surname. Smile

I think the name I tolerate the most is probably Tobias nn Toby. It also goes quite well with Elliott. I probably won't stick to this though haha!

FWIW, I don't think it's essential to love the name at first. It's enough to like the name, and the more you think of and use it, the more you'll associate it with your baby, the more you'll love it, because it's his name Smile

NameChange30 · 21/10/2016 10:32

Are you engaged btw? If so congratulations! Smile

MotherDuckSaid · 21/10/2016 10:36

I LOVE Tobias Elliot, what a superb name, great for a novelist , a barrister or doctor ! A name tht mothers wdnt mind their daughters dating for sure ! 😊

Ineverpromisedyouarosegarden · 21/10/2016 10:48

Toby Elliott sounds lovely too.

litttlemisssunshine · 21/10/2016 10:49

Yes Namechange I guess that is true, never looked at it that way. I'll love him no matter what his name is that's for sure Smileeven if I don't quite love his name. Yes we're engaged, wedding is JuneGrin

Thank you motherduck! Knowing other people love it does make it grow more on me for some strange reason Grin definitely gives me more confidence in using the name. My family love it too which is a bonusSmile

I love Toby Elliott (full name Tobias Elliott), it's a really cool name!

How lovely that he will be at your wedding and in the photos Smile

If it makes you feel better, I'm expecting a boy and I felt very similar to you when we started shortlisting names - I didn't really love anything. But one of the names has really grown on me and we've now decided on it Smile I'm feeling happy with our choice, especially because we both like it equally and thankfully it hasn't been a battle (unlikely a couple of the other decisions!)

NameChange30 · 21/10/2016 11:56

*unlike

Hayls17 · 21/10/2016 12:04

I'm in the same boat! We haven't found out gender yet but I have a ton of girls names I love and a few boys names I like, but don't love. My boys list is
Leon
Liam
Ethan
Alexander
Cameron

Voteforpedr0 · 21/10/2016 12:15

The names you have listed are quite boring and dull and overused. How about :
Tristan
Howard
Liam
Lyle
Sebastian
Troy
Cristian

Flumplet · 21/10/2016 12:25

Christopher?

"The names you listed are quite boring and dull and overused."
Charming Hmm
I disagree. And I hate all the names you listed apart from Sebastian!
Just goes to show that it's all down to personal taste Wink
And the reason names are commonly used is that most people like them.
Personally I'd avoid a top 10 name, but Tobias/Toby isn't even close - it was 44th last year if I remember rightly.

BikeRunSki · 21/10/2016 12:29

Kester
Gabriel
Peter
Amos
Sebastian
Patrick
Dominic
Nicholas
Ambrose ????

My ds are called Edward and Samuel. Wasn't sure about Samuel to start off with but can't see him as anything else now. Pp said name grows on you and I agree. I liked Edward because there could be so many nicknames if you wanted. As it happens our Edward is Teddy, but he can change it himself as he gets older (he's 5 next week).
Toby was also on our list and I still really like it. Toby elliot is a great name!! We also had Daniel on our list.
