It's part of a house isn't it?

Not my cup of tea, I imagine it would be misheard as Gabriel a fair bit too.

HillaryFTW · 18/10/2016 22:04

Do you mean Gabe?

BeattieBowRisenFromTheDead · 18/10/2016 22:05

Sorry, not keen. I first think of the house (like Green Gables) and then "As in Clark?"

Also agree it sounds like someone mumbling 'Gabriel'.

Loyly · 18/10/2016 22:06

My first thought was 'gable end' as in house. To me, it isn't good as a name.

OlennasWimple · 18/10/2016 22:07

No, it's not a name! Gabriel, however, is lovely

DramaAlpaca · 18/10/2016 22:10

I don't think it works, sorry.

I guess you are thinking of it as a surname name, as in Clark Gable, but as others have said it just sounds like a mish-mash of Gabriel and Gabe.

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 18/10/2016 22:11

Terrible.

NewIdeasToday · 18/10/2016 22:12

I really really don't understand this apparent trend to give babies names that aren't actually names for people.

MollyRedskirts · 18/10/2016 22:12

Sorry, no. It immediately makes me think of part of a house. It would be a bit like calling a baby 'Gate' or 'Guttering'.

Gabe or Gabriel are both lovely, and similar sounding.

ShatnersBassoon · 18/10/2016 22:12

Abel is a reasonable non-triangular name.

RiverTam · 18/10/2016 22:13

I don't mind 'non-name' names at all but I don't think this one works at all.

Heratnumber7 · 18/10/2016 22:14

No. plain and simple. No.

BeattieBowRisenFromTheDead · 18/10/2016 22:15

Molly I knew someone called 'Gates' Hmm

FinnegansCake · 18/10/2016 22:16

Awful, sorry!

People would mis-spell it as Gabble

Allalonenow · 18/10/2016 22:17

I like it, and Newel is nice too.

MollyRedskirts · 18/10/2016 22:18

Ha! It was an example plucked out of the air. My apologies if I offended you.

SailingThroughTime · 18/10/2016 22:20

Not my cup of tea but it started me pondering whether Architrave would be for boys, girls or a unisex name (in the manner of Rothmans being a boy's name). Wainscott would be a boy's name. Cornice is a gigl's name obviously.
Ponders ...

BeattieBowRisenFromTheDead · 18/10/2016 22:21

No, sorry, my Hmm was at his name not at your joke Grin

BeattieBowRisenFromTheDead · 18/10/2016 22:22

Arf at Cornice Grin

Dado also clearly a girls' name.

SailingThroughTime · 18/10/2016 22:22

Girl's not gigl's Blush

IcedVanillaLatte · 18/10/2016 22:23

I think Finial is a lovely name.

Catgirl83 · 18/10/2016 22:25

Agree. Gable isn't a name. Gabriel, on the other hand, is lovely.

HillaryFTW · 18/10/2016 22:26

Lintel? A nice alternative to Linnet.

SailingThroughTime · 18/10/2016 22:26

Spindle is a bit too like Spinster for my taste but hey ho - horses for courses and all that.
Mansard is a strong 4 square name for a boy.

Lunar1 · 18/10/2016 22:26

How do you say it? To rhyme with babble or Mable?
