Def. don't like Miller - but then I never like surnames used as first names.
I agree with others who say Dougray sounds like you've mashed together 2 names. Or it sounds like a scottish town to my English ears.

Namenamenamename

Sometimes I wonder why so many people on mumsnet are so obsessed with class and race.

I live in east London with my mixed race family, but I do respond negatively to horrible names (such as Dougray) when asked for opinions on the baby name forum.

Namenamenamename · 17/10/2016 13:51

Thinking it's horrible is quite different to suggesting a child will be bullied for being different though, Chinlo.

Miller is lovely (I have one)!

sonlypuppyfat · 17/10/2016 14:45

But bullies exist it's ridiculous to think otherwise

Namenamenamename · 17/10/2016 15:22

No suggestion from me that bullies don't exist, I suspect they are the kids of parents who think that difference is something to be critical of.

Miller

Thanks for the input everyone, good and bad - the world would be a boring place if we all agreed eh?! Still got a bit of time to go before decision needs to be made and the girls choice has already been whittled down to one Smile

I agree namenamenamename, the reaction to names on here baffles me.

Both names are great OP, although I think I like Dougray best.

My DD loves having an unusual name and has never been bullied - neither have any of the other kids with unusual names or anyone that I've met. I guess I've been lucky to avoid so many unpleasant people. I hate my "normal" name, it is so boring.

HoratioNightboy · 17/10/2016 19:32

Or it sounds like a scottish town.

Yes, the Scottish town of Dougrie on Arran. Dougray has been used in Scottish names as far back as 1871, and there have been quite a few here since Mr. Scott became famous. Your little boy wouldn't be the only one, DP!

Miller isn't good at all but I do like Dougray. I'm in Scotland though where I think it might me more popular, I think it would be doog-ray rather than dugg-ray here.

Strokethefurrywall · 17/10/2016 19:46

Love Miller but I like surnames for first names. Not so keen on Dougray, but it's not unheard of.
