South West and I know 3 Oscars who are under 5. Only beaten in popularity here by Reuben!

Chinlo · 15/10/2016 14:08

Define "too" popular. It's subjective.

In 2015, one in every 172 babies (so one in every 86 boys) was named Oscar.

SallyR0se · 15/10/2016 14:12

I consider Oscar to be a boring name now.

Sophronia · 15/10/2016 14:31

It is already very popular

Moonrocks6 · 15/10/2016 14:55

I only know 1 in west yorks. Don't think it's boring st all.

CEOD · 15/10/2016 15:29

Depends what people think of as boring - Sophronia, do you think William, James and Thomas are boring? Or are you thinking its boring in a sort of Alfie, Archie, Jack way?

I'm in Birmingham and I don't know any! My dc are 6 and 8.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/10/2016 17:46

I only know one, aged 13yrs.

Pipilangstrumpf · 15/10/2016 22:14

It has become quite trendy over the past 10 years and will probably sound dated as it falls out of favour. I'd choose a more tieless name personally.

Pipilangstrumpf · 15/10/2016 22:14

Timeless

I have an Oscar living on either side of us, one is 4 years and the other is about 2. The scruffy lady over the road had just given birth and I believe that he's Oscar too!
I like it but it's very popular.

crje · 15/10/2016 22:27

I don't like it at all.
There are far nicer, less popular names.

WatchingFromTheWings · 15/10/2016 22:34

There's only 1 Oscar in my local primary school...and he's mine!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 15/10/2016 22:36

Yes.

I know at least 6 little Oscars and 4 puppy Oscars.

MotherDuckSaid · 17/10/2016 20:02

i think its meant to be a popular name, i know probably about 6 under 5,
but IMO its maybe better to have a popular name (?) than to have a name so 'outlandish' they'd b th only one in the whole school with it and they'd hate it ! :)

paddypants13 · 17/10/2016 20:15

I don't know any little Oscars (N. Yorks but family and friends mostly in W. Yorks.). I do know lots of little Olivers though.

Ds has a very traditional (some would say boring) and constantly popular name. I don't care, I still love it!

Coey2016 · 17/10/2016 21:55

I don't know any (south east)

Sunbeam18 · 17/10/2016 22:23

Two under 3 here (Edinburgh)

engineersthumb · 17/10/2016 22:40

I have an Oscar and we meet more on every visit to the park.... we thought we were being original! Have just named our second... for reference the name Felix is closed :)

Voteforpedr0 · 17/10/2016 22:44

Ozzy for short will be cute

BigGreenOlives · 17/10/2016 22:49

I am closely related to a 17 yr old Oscar. Know another 17 yr old & a 16 yr old. It's a timeless name, popular in lots of languages (French, Spanish, Polish, Swedish, German). Benjamin, Harry & Jack were v popular then.

Pipilangstrumpf · 18/10/2016 09:07

Ozzy is cute Hmm?

wineandsunshine · 18/10/2016 09:16

I know two (south) - my son (4.5) and my neighbours son! We shorten to Ossie a lot!

marshallzumarubble · 20/10/2016 08:59

East Yorkshire here.

I know seven under 5 Oscars. There are three in my son's reception class, two in Year 1, one girl in his class has a two year old brother named Oscar and my friend has a one year old Oscar. My brother-in-law's dog is also called Oscar. Very popular here!
