Do these names sound awful with this surname?

Hi,

I'm a regular poster but have namechanged for this as don't want my surname linked to my normal username. There are a couple of names we really love but I don't think they sound very good with our surname. I'm not sure if I'm overthinking things or if it's bad enough that I need to rule them out. Our surname is Hogan, the names are Theo(dore) and Jonas.

So Theo Hogan
Jonas Hogan

Are they too repetitive with the repeated long O sound or do they sound OK? If they sound bad do you have any suggestions for other names that might fit this similar style?

Thank you!

Jonas works better imo

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 13/10/2016 21:48

I prefer Theo Hogan!

DramaAlpaca · 13/10/2016 21:49

I think they are both fine with the surname, but Theo works better.

Is he likely to be called Jo/e? If so then Theo because Jo Ho isn't a fun nickname Grin

I don't like the assonance with the long O sounds. It flows slightly better with Theo as the syllables are in a different order but Jonas Hogan is too matchy to my ear.

Buntysoven · 14/10/2016 00:15

I find Theo harder to say because the o is at the end. Jonas Hogan sounds fine.

PotatoBread · 14/10/2016 06:37

Both sound fine - I prefer Theo Hogan

Another vote for Theo.

Both sound fine.

Both sound fine, lovely names

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/10/2016 09:34

They're both okay, but I think Jonas Hogan, sounds nicer.

NappingRabbit · 14/10/2016 15:15

I prefer Theo but think both sound fine.

I think they are both absolutely fine. If someone was introduced to me as either of those names I wouldn't think anything of them. Obviously there is the repeated vowel sound but it doesn't make it sound odd to me. To me Jonas and Hogan are slightly more similar (than Theo and Hogan) because of the sound order, but both sound fine.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 14/10/2016 15:25

Jonas Hogan sounds better. But I like both names.

Pipilangstrumpf · 14/10/2016 17:49

Both don't sound great together.

I think these would flow better (for example)
Alexander Hogan
James Hogan
Quentin Hogan
Elliott Hogan

SerialBodenReturner · 14/10/2016 18:07

I would worry that Jonas Hogan would spend his whole life saying 'no, not Jonah Sogan, 'Jonas Hogan'.

The names just run together too much for me - I'd go with Theo.
