Which do you prefer between Lorenzo and Laurence? We are trying to decide between the two. His background is partly Italian but he will grow up in the U.K.

As he has an Italian background I'd definitely go for Lorenzo. Laurence is a bit limp.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/10/2016 12:11

Lorenzo. Lawrence is awful. I really don't get the appeal

Raines100 · 12/10/2016 12:52

Lorenzo.
Laurence sounds wet imho, probably because I know one that is

CPtart · 12/10/2016 13:04

Laurence.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2016 13:05

Lorenzo, because of the Italian heritage.

Tarttlet · 12/10/2016 13:35

I like Laurence but I think, since he'll be half Italian, I'd go with Lorenzo.

Chinlo · 12/10/2016 13:45

Lorenzo. I think it's nice to give a child a reminder of their heritage if one of their parents is living abroad.

Also, it's an okay name whereas Laurence/Lawrence is just horrible.

mumsnit · 12/10/2016 19:39

I have a DS called Laurence but we also often call him Lorenzo as a nn!

Would probably have chosen Lorenzo if we had any Italian heritage as I think it's gorgeous!

pinkandsparklytoo · 12/10/2016 19:54

Lorenzo. It was on my list along with Orlando but DH said no as we have no Italian heritage.

MotherDuckSaid · 12/10/2016 20:11

The Lorenzo's I met growing up were stunning hunks of men !
I really like Lawrence too, I guess it depends how much u want to celebrate the heritage, do your other children (/would u like future children to)have Italian names ? :)

Sophronia · 13/10/2016 12:10

Both are lovely, but I think Lorenzo due to the Italian heritage

allegretto · 15/10/2016 07:07

We had Lorenzo on our list too but it was very popular (I think no1 or 2!) on the list for the area where we live (in Italy - I doubt you'd have that problem in the UK!) Just wondered if your DD had an Italian name? If not, I would probably go for Lawrence - which I love too.

allegretto · 15/10/2016 07:08

BTW the Lorenzos I know get shortened to Lori.

Shockers · 15/10/2016 07:10

I love the nn Enzo!

Shockers · 15/10/2016 07:10

And Lori!

n0ne · 15/10/2016 07:12

Lorenzo, definitely!

Spring2016 · 15/10/2016 07:13

Both can be nicknamed Laurie, my grandfather was a Lawrence, people called him Laurie.
I like both names, but would choose Lorenzo.

Spring2016 · 15/10/2016 07:17

Just asked dh, he said Lorenzo Lawrence. Does have a nice ring to it I think!

NameChange30 · 15/10/2016 08:39

Eh? Lorenzo Lawrence?
That's like calling your child Mathieu Matthew, Philippe Philip, or Pierre Peter Confused

DixieExter · 15/10/2016 09:37

Laurence

jayisforjessica · 15/10/2016 14:32

Love Lorenzo!

Caipira · 15/10/2016 14:35

I love Enzo but less keen on Lorenzo. My MIL's boyfriend's grandson is Lorezno and he is very sweet so it's grown on me, the name suits him. He's half Brazilian but growing up in a English speaking country. It works.

Spring2016 · 16/10/2016 04:48

That would not matter to me.

AureliaSabina · 17/10/2016 04:04

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the feedback It's hard for me to gauge how Lorenzo sounds to an English ear.

Namechange- we're thinking of using Laurie as a nickname for either name. I'm not keen on Enzo. Although I can see it doesn't sound bad in English, in Italy it's not a very attractive name.

CEOD - are you any closer to making a decision? Maybe with the siblings having Spanish names, Lorenzo would go well.

Motherduck - our DD has an Italian name although it's one of those names that a person with no Italian heritage might choose.
