If I like Barnaby for a boy....

Can you suggest a girl's name please?

We don't know what we're having, we suspect a boy but until baby's born it's a surprise!!!
Both DH and I love Barnaby.
Also Sebastian

I like Ace too but that got veto'd Grin

We both dislike "floral" names for girls or overtly "girly"
We would like for our daughter to be able to have an "easy" abbreviation for her name. I love unisex names. Jaimie is nice but not quite right. (Short surname)

Also, first name can't begin with an H or she'll sound like a superhero's alter ego!!!

So... any ideas?!!

Bernadette? I know a Bernadette and she has a short surname and it flows really well.

Scribblegirl · 08/10/2016 08:18

Roxanne nn Roxy? I know it's a bit more 'edgy' but it's not terribly girly and I really like it so there Grin

Sukitakeitoff · 08/10/2016 08:20

Martha? Juno? They don't quite meet your criteria but I think they go well and aren't too girly.

wiltingfast · 08/10/2016 08:43

Well you said you didn't want girlie! Grin girl in ds class called Darcy, it works Smile

How about

Lois
Jane
Ruth
Tess
Hazel (at least it's not a flower!)

PikachuSayBoo · 08/10/2016 08:45

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 08/10/2016 08:45

All I can think of is Riley

wiltingfast · 08/10/2016 08:45

Feck forgot about the H

Not sure I get that though?

Rowan is another round here used for both boys and girls.

SpaceDinosaur · 08/10/2016 09:19

Thank you!

I hadn't thought of Bernadette. I quite like that. I also really like Jemima but DH just says "puddle duck" when I suggest it!

Some of them are too "usual" for our taste. I know far too many Tabithas. DH isn't keen on Matilda.
I'd LOVE a Harriet but were agreed that having matching initials will make our baby sound like baby a super hero which is disappointing!!!

Please keep suggesting. This is a million times better than books and websites!

We have a Barnaby. If he and his brothers were girls they would have been Nancy, Polly and Flora.

Pigeonpost · 08/10/2016 10:24

PS Don't dismiss Harriet just because your surname starts with an H. Harriet Harman doesn't sound like a superhero does she? Harriet is a lovely name.

Pigeonpost · 08/10/2016 10:26

Oh it might have been Heidi instead of Flora. But that leaves you with the same H issue.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/10/2016 10:53

Vivienne (Vivi).
Josephine (Jo).
Harriet (Harri).

PikachuSayBoo · 08/10/2016 11:59

I agree that for example Harriet Harrison may be a step too far but generally I love a first name which starts with the same letter as the surname.

Actually I'm quite liking Harriet Harrison now ive said it a few times?
