Margarey?

What do you think of Margery? According to the statistics it's virtually extinct unless I'm spelling it wrong. I really love Maggie and Maddie but DH will not agree to Madeleline because of the McConnell.

Thanks in advance x

Hmm. I'm not keen on the inevitable "Marge" or "Margie" nick name.

What about:
Margot
Magdalena
Mairead
Marta

IsadoraQuagmire · 07/10/2016 14:40

I can never decide if I prefer Margery or Marjorie, but it's one of my favourite names.

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 07/10/2016 14:42

I think it's dreadful, drippy and wet and dowdy.

Of all the beautiful names in all the world...Margery?

AlmaMartyr · 07/10/2016 14:43

Margery is my mum's name and DD's middle name. Mum has never been 'Marge' or 'Margie'. I like it and DD likes having it. It is unusual too.

FinnegansCake · 07/10/2016 15:07

My DM is a Marjorie, my DF always called her Meg.

I've come across a few young French Marjories.

PoldarksBreeches · 07/10/2016 15:10

Margary is a granny's name. Not in a granny chic way.

FlameGrower · 07/10/2016 15:10

Eeeeeek. Marjorie? Is that trendy now?!

Groundhogday2016 · 07/10/2016 15:16

Really really bad.

CremeBrulee · 07/10/2016 15:32

I would have the same as others, that you spell it Marjorie or Margery but I've just watched an old episode of 'To the Manor Born' and in the end credits, Audrey's best friend is listed as Marjory.

Actually, I quite like that spelling.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/10/2016 20:08

There is a reason why, it's virtually extinct OP !
How about :
Margot
Margeret
Megan
Maria
Marnie

No - it's awful, sorry.

Bogburglar75 · 07/10/2016 22:02

I'll buck the trend and say I think Margery is lovely - it helps to be a medievalist perhaps as it does go back to that period. Margery Kempe was a delightfully bonkers fourteenth century mystic.

If you don't watch Game of Thrones then I'd have a peek and consider the Margaery Tyrell associations. There are many far worse characters to be associated with but I think people will assume that's where you got the idea.

cheapandcheerful · 07/10/2016 22:03

As in 'See saw Margerey Door'?

No.

ChishandFips33 · 07/10/2016 22:17

I quite like your original 'Margarey' but pronounced Mar-gar-ray

0pti0na1 · 07/10/2016 23:01

I quite like it.

Timeandtune · 07/10/2016 23:12

I like it. I have a friend called Margery and I think it is a classic name. Also in my experience you have little control over shortened versions especially once your child is at school. I knew a Robert whose mother want to call him Rob/Robbie/ Bobby but from the age of 3 he would only go by his full name.
