Honest opinions on the name Alizée?

It's a French name (DH is French, I grew up in France) but we live in the UK and will do for the forseeable future, so wanting British opinions.

I think it is pretty. Never met one before. Nice choice!

SunnyInMay · 04/10/2016 14:43

As in the alcoholic drink? That's the first thing that came to mind.

2014newme · 04/10/2016 14:45

No.
Whether for boy or girl I don't like its

WyfOfBathe · 04/10/2016 14:48

I never new that Alizé was a drink! Blush

I think it's beautiful!

I wouldn't be sure how to pronounce it if I saw it written down. And it's quite annoying to have to keep correcting people about the pronunciation of your child's name. I'd go with something else.

WyfOfBathe · 04/10/2016 14:51

Yeah, my main worry was that people would read it as A-lizzy (especially as the accent wouldn't normally be written in English).

It's supposed to be Ally-zay.

It reminds me of a medication for some readin. Sorry.

Shesaysso · 04/10/2016 14:56

It sounds made up so on that basis a definite no from me. I appreciate it isn't but I think maybe it doesn't work in UK.

TobleroneBoo · 04/10/2016 14:56

I thought of the drinks first too

cerealnamechangers · 04/10/2016 15:02

It is most definitely a cheap alcoholic drink!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2016 15:04

No,I don't like it at all.

Pipilangstrumpf · 04/10/2016 15:06

I'd pronounce it like Élysée but with an A.

WyfOfBathe · 04/10/2016 15:07

I think I'm going to go back to the drawing board!

I really don't want DD to share her name with an alcoholic drink... the only associations with the name I had was the French singer Alizée Lyonnet!

I'd pronounce it like Élysée but with an A.

That's the correct pronunciation Smile

Like the pop singer?

Sophronia · 04/10/2016 17:42

It makes me think of the drink

Raines100 · 04/10/2016 20:59

Moi, je m'appelle Lolita, Lo ou bien Lola du pareil au même...

Maybe I'm crazy, but I love Élysée. It's my fantasy girl name. Alizée doesn't do it for me.

Madamfrog · 04/10/2016 21:53

Alizé is a tropical wind, the extra e is added to make a name for a person, never heard of the drink...

DocMcFanjo · 04/10/2016 21:57

It sounds lovely but written down I pronounced it to rhyme with "sleazy" in my head. Maybe a problem when she gets to school age??

I have a name with an unusual non-English spelling and it's no prob when you just say it to people, but teachers/receptionists etc never got/get it right when reading it out. Doesn't really bother me though!

AudreyBradshaw · 04/10/2016 22:16

Well now I'm have a nostalgic singalong!

I think Alizee is lovely.

rightguard · 04/10/2016 22:28

It's also the model of a very popular coach in this country. Van hool are coach builders and Alizee is the most popular model. It's kind of the bus equivalent of calling your daughter fiesta. Sorry, lovely name otherwise Blush

PaperdollCartoon · 04/10/2016 22:31

I like it, and if your DH is French it has context. I hadn't seen it before but read it as you say it's pronounced first time. I've never heard of a drink called that. Would it end up being shortened to Lizzy though, and if so would you mind?
