I like abaeze purely for sound, although I admit I haven't heard of either. How are they pronounced?

How are they pronounced? I think Abaeze looks nicer written down than Odogwu but i have never heard of either name.

Nigerian background? I think I prefer the sound of Abaeze.

Abaeze

Odogwu more of a surname?

OlennasWimple · 02/10/2016 20:53

Abaeze will mean a lifetime of correcting pronunciation and spelling, but I really like it

Odogwu I don't like - mostly because of the "dog" bit

I really like Abaeze . Totally guessing pronunciation now - do you say it Abayzee?
Not keen on Odogwu for same reason as OleannasWimple - ie the dog part doesn't work so well here.

What do they both mean?

Lilacpink40 · 03/10/2016 08:34

I work with international students and they usually all shorten names just as home students do. So I wouldn't go for one with dog in it, but other one that can be shortened to Abe.

I am British and of British origin. The only language I speak is English. (So similar to the vast majority of people your ds will encounter in his life.)

I would pronounce those names as

A-baze-ey
O-dog-woo

Which of these (mis)pronounciations annoys you the least?

Report
midsomermurderess · 03/10/2016 08:58

Why assume we will all pronounce them like you *mum? I find that an annoying assumption, I speak for all British English speakers.

Report
emwithme · 03/10/2016 08:59

Similar to Mum above I only really speak English, but I would (mis?) pronounce it Ab-eye-easy. Could you cope with that too/instead?

I like Odogwu.

I like the first one, it will easily fit into any culture and people would only need telling once how to say it.

I think Abaeze is nice and lots of potential for nice nicknames/shortening should DC want to

Depends whether you want him to be "King" or "Conquerer"!

I think in this country Abaeze works better because of the likelihood of the "Dog" nickname.

Although Abaeze could be shortened to Abs, I'm not sure which is worse Grin

I like Abaeze best by a long way.

I work with an Abs and he's absolutely lovely!

Hope that helps Grin
