Middle name for Leocadia

I think, hope that we've decided upon Leocadia if this baby who is due for eviction in less than nine weeks is a girl.
Struggling for middle names.
Other DDs are Sylvie Jacinta and Delilah Elisabeth.
Any ideas?

Thank you all,

We have ummed and ahhed between Leocadia and Leocadie, I actually think that Leocadie fits better with our sibset.

I'd be tempted to go for Leocadie Raphaella in that instance.

My two cents again Grin

I think Leocadie Leeming sounds a million miles better. Flows off the tongue instead of tripping me up. And Leocadie sounds like a girl's name. Leocadia makes me think of Tom Stoppard.

katemess12 · 02/10/2016 10:16

Never heard of Leocadie/Leocadia. I thought it was made up. Hmm

Something simple for a middle name.

Leocadie Raphaella Leeming is way too much of a mouthful, IMO.

EllenDegenerate · 02/10/2016 10:37

Hi Katemess

It's actually a saints name which dates to the fourth century. 😀 So considerably less 'made up' than the majority of names and as I said, we're catholic so I would know.

Thanks for your input though.

Raines I think you may be right but I don't know who Tom Stoppard is, worth a google?

Oh, don't worry. It's not a negative association. He wrote a play called Arcadia, which I once studied, and I wouldn't name my child something that reminds me of my A level coursework!
There's also a phrase related to Arcadia that makes that name somewhat ill-fated, but as Leocadia was a martyred saint, I'm sure an even more tenuous connotation won't put you off! Grin

Like Leocadie Raphaella btw.

Lweji · 02/10/2016 11:43

I'd go for a simple name that she might actuallt want to be called and not have to spell every single time.

Leocadia/e would work better as a middle name.
She will be called Leo, btw.

EllenDegenerate · 02/10/2016 13:01

Oh completely get you there Raines, I feel much the same about most of the more unfortunately associated names from The Ovid which frequently pop up on here but I personally couldn't use. Each to their own and all that Smile

My OH likes Leocadie Raphaella too.

Hi Lewji

Thanks for your input but simple names aren't usually to our taste, I'm extremely impressed that you seemingly know what my as yet unborn child will want to be called. How do you do that? Could you teach me?

Yes I'm aware she'll probably be called Leo as a diminutive.
It's fine.

Baby names is not the place to ask for advice if you only want people to love your choice. Better try an antenatal club thread for that. Fwiw I like leocadia and leocadie but they won't be to everybody's taste. Best to acknowledge that I think. The advice to pick a simpler middle name is sound.

ShmooBooMoo · 02/10/2016 13:06

How is that pronounced?

EllenDegenerate · 02/10/2016 13:08

The advice is most welcome,

Fwiw I actually enjoy the opportunities for banter provided by the likes of Lweji.

I don't want everybody to agree with me NL.
Indeed it's more fun when they don't Wink

I know a little Leo(nora), think it's great! I've never heard of Leocadie/a but prefer it to Endellion :)

When I say Leocadie, the only MNs that are coming out are one syllable. Although I do think Leocadie Raphaella Leeming flows nicely.

LunaLoveg00d · 02/10/2016 17:06

I would assume Spanish heritage too - it's a great name but I immediately thought Spanish when I saw the thread title.

What about sticking with the Spanish theme - Montserrat, Alba, Amaia, Maite or Miren?

dailymaillazyjournos · 02/10/2016 21:46

What a beautiful name. I've not come heard of it. I think something on the short side?

Grace
May
Mary
Kate

SovietKitsch · 03/10/2016 14:39

The Spanish pronounce it more like Lo -ca - dia not as a drawn out Lee-oh-cay-dia, which I think sounds nicer.

dailymaillazyjournos · 03/10/2016 19:33

Either way it's a fab name imo. Still prefer it with a shorter middle name.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2016 19:40

Are you absolutely sure your dd is going to thank you for this? Particularly with the alliteration?

As mum of a blonde, blue eyed Carmen with no Spanish heritage, Carmen is lovely and strong. What's the origin of Leocadia? Sounds Roman or Ancient Greek.

I'd also go a bit more unfrilly to balance it out, so...

Eve
Faith
Joan
Nicole

AbernathysFringe · 03/10/2016 23:43

Sorry, NRFT before posting. Love the origin of the name. Leocadie does flow better with the surname.

OrlandaFuriosa · 03/10/2016 23:47

Shame not another l, because leocadie Louisa learning has lots if attractions...

I like
Susanna
Anna or Anne
Leocadia Phoebe
Maria or Marie
Elizabeth goes with either
Leocadia Natalie

When is babe due? What's the appropriate season or nearest saints day? It's nice to have a name day as well as your birthday..

Love Leocadie Raphaella!

allegretto · 04/10/2016 15:18

I would definitely go for a one syllable, simple name: Ann, Jane, May, Ruth. I like the name but don't think it goes with an L surname
