Martha is my favourite girl's name, but one of my closest friends has recently named her daughter that and SIL has just called her son Arthur, so the cousins would be Arthur and Martha which just wouldn't work ... so we're back to square one.

We've toyed with Eleanor, Esther, Evelyn, Eda, Erin, Edith, Florence, Georgia, Helena, Harlow, Marcella, Matilda, Robyn, and Romilly but none of them are quite right.

Our surname is an object (think Wood, except it's not) so we can't use any first name that could be seen to describe it, such as Rose, Ivy, Fleur, etc.

Any ideas??!

I love Martha. A friend of mine had a horse called Maud once and I loved that too!

DD would have been Martha but it didn't work with her middle name which we'd agreed early on for family reasons, and by the time I was expecting DS my oldest friend had had a Martha - DH thought we should use it anyway but I felt it wouldn't feel like 'our' name any more so understand why you're put off. Our alternatives were Tabitha, Susannah and Grace.

Just ask your friend if she minds! She might even be flattered. I know I'd be if a friend wanted to give their child the same name as mine.

I have a Martha. Other names on our list were Greta, Miriam, Aphra, Audrey and Pheobe. I also like Esther and Naomi.

I'd call her Martha if that is your favourite name. The friend in a different city wouldn't bother me a bit (and if I were the friend it wouldn't bother me either) and the cousins rhyming is just one of those things the kids will discover one day when someone calls them in for tea, laugh about for 2 minutes and move on. If I thought about it enough I probably could find two rhyming names among my first cousins (as well as the couple who have the same first and middle name - after granddad)

Just use it.
