Baxter

I'd really like to name my baby due in 4 weeks Baxter.

I had an old friend who passed away a few years ago, and was like a grandad to me. Sadly he never had any grandchildren and would have loved them. I would like to have him remembered in this way.

The gentleman in question's surname was Baxter. He was a very cool man who had dragged himself up from poor East End beginnings to become very senior in his profession but would patiently sit and watch us little girls sing a new song or do a dance Grin

Can't use his first name, as a) he hated it as it was misspelled by his dad when registering him, and b) it doesnt work at all with our surname.

However I know most people meeting our little boy wouldnt know all of this and would just know him as Baxter. Is it too unusual?

Please not Jackson Baxter!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 27/09/2016 11:08

I really like it.

LaundryQueenHatesIroning · 27/09/2016 11:12

I love it!

My husband loves this name. I just really like names you can abbreviate, and wasn't sure on 'Bax'! So vetoed it. Also Ian Dury's son is called Baxter. If you like it, you should use it and its a lovely sentiment.

chinlo · 27/09/2016 11:25

I think it's horrible. And I also hate surnames as first names.

Does that help?

In the end you should just do what makes you happy.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/09/2016 16:35

Aw I like it!!! It's refreshingly different and not crazy out-there. Baxter Jackson sounds brilliant, much better than the other way around!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/09/2016 16:41

Plus Chinlo's last sentence - did you go for Finlo in the end, Chinlo?

Grin

No, it just didn't feel right. We're on Otto vs. Hector at the moment, with the former looking pretty likely.

EttaJ · 27/09/2016 17:16

Lovely name, but how about as a middle name.

lizzieoak · 27/09/2016 17:25

Jackson sounds way too surnamey to me. Baxter I don't mind as its Ian Dury's son name & I was once Ian Dury mad so it gets a pass (I apply this rule to zero other famous people).

dalmatianmad · 27/09/2016 18:46

Baxter is a company that supply drug infusion pumps in the Hospital where I work, they beep constantly for no fucking reason and seem to go mental at 4 am when your poor patient is trying to sleep

MrsGsnow18 · 27/09/2016 18:49

I think your reasons are lovely. Sorry though I'm also not a big fan. It mostly makes me think of dogs called Baxter.
It's not really important though what others associate the name with, just important that you and your DH both like it and that it has that nice sentimental meaning behind it is lovely.
It would be good as a middle name, though I'm not sure about Jackson Baxter as that might be quite hard to say. Also if you had two middle names ( Name Baxter Jackson name) that's pretty long.

Just go with what you think is right OP and don't let others put you off a name you like!

aquawoman · 27/09/2016 18:50

Dogs name

aquawoman · 27/09/2016 18:51

Max Baxter is literally the worst name I have ever heard

callycat1 · 27/09/2016 18:52

I really don't like it sorry, but I like Edward.

Pleasemrstweedie · 27/09/2016 18:54

Baxter - great name.

dlnex · 27/09/2016 19:08

it sounds like a brand of gravy

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/09/2016 20:30

Definitrly Otto chin!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/09/2016 20:51

Baxter Jackson, yes, I like it Albus.

AlbusPercival · 27/09/2016 21:00

Aqua - yes I did point out on my post it doesn't work. It's just that max is on our list of potential first names, clearly we would have to go with another middle name.

Dalmatian - fair enough for similar reasons I could never call my chile Ben or Jerry Grin

I think there used to be a comic strip or cartoon about a dog called Baxter. He was a sausage dog. It also reminds me of the bald teacher with a beard in early Grange Hill. He was Mr Baxter and not very likable.
