Will I regret this name choice? Would you know how to pronounce it? Seer-sha.

We are in Scotland which I think does make a difference. DH has irish roots.

I'm just worried my child would spend her life correcting the pronunciation of her name. (And surname)

What are your thoughts mumsnetters?

I wouldn't have had a clue how to pronounce it.
If I heard it, I wouldn't have a clue how to spell it.

If that were my name, it would annoy the heck out of me.

OP Rangers supporting practising Catholic here from the east of Scotland, who couldn't care what the connotations are, it's a bloody gorgeous name!!

My DD is a Saoirse in Glasgow. There are a few of them.
Knew about the newsletter.

DH did put his foot down on the middle name Lilly and she is an easter baby. Grin

But DH had his heart set on a daughter called Saoirse from a young age.

Love the idea her name means Freedom.

Nope it's supposed to be SEER SHA ifs it's spelt Saoirse. There is also Sorcha can be Sur ika or Sore sha
I have an Irish name which I have to correct the spelling with most Irish people
Phonics are great Hmm

MaudGonneMad · 24/09/2016 09:57

Sorcha should always be Sur-uh-ka, never Soresha. 'Ch' in Irish is a hard sound, not a soft 'ch' sound.

LucyBabs · 24/09/2016 17:03

Sorry Maude I meant to write sore- ka not sore- sha Smile
