British, Irish, Italian baby!

Due in a few weeks and still can't decide on baby names!!! DP is English and I am Irish. We currently live in Italy so could get away with a British, Irish or even Italian name. Quite happy with my girl choices but I think a lot of the boys names are dreadful (DPs choice- he's much more posh than me!!!!) Please could you give me your honest opinion on these and feel free to offer any alternatives! I should add that we will probably move back to the UK next year, so don't want anything that would be difficult to pronounce or spell! Also, we are double barrelled. The first surname starts with S and is a very old, aristocratic name. Maybe rules out S first names?!

Magnus
Hector
Rafe
Rory /Ruairidh
Gabriel
Dominic
Sebastian
Torin

Alessia
Francesca
Saoirse
Freya
Aoife
Roisin

OP
Are you an Aideen????Smile

OlennasWimple · 21/09/2016 16:22

Holly - many Italian names would be seen as "Catholic names" and therefore not accepted by staunch Protestants

OlennasWimple · 21/09/2016 16:25

OP - how about

Alessandro
Antonio
Benito
Lucio
Pascal
Silvestro / Silvester

Stilldreamingofsun · 21/09/2016 16:25

It's a fair point. No staunch Catholics or Protestants in the family. Not going to be an issue!

Dominic and Maria !

albertcampionscat · 21/09/2016 20:40

Please not Benito. You might as well call the kid Adolf.

Stilldreamingofsun · 21/09/2016 21:04

Benito??!!! And his little brother Stalin 😂😂

...And his little brother Stalin

Stalin's first name was Joseph wasn't it though? And I know loads of little Josephs!

Arborea · 21/09/2016 22:15

Yep, Benito is a bit of a no-go! Have you thought of putting an Italian film/TV show in IMDB and then looking at cast and crew names for more inspiration?

Glamorousglitter · 21/09/2016 22:18

We have friends (living in Ireland, dad from
U.K., maternal GP s from Italy) little boy is Luca and it works in all places :)

LokisUnderpants · 21/09/2016 22:18

You're going to have a nightmare if you use an Irish name. I know because I used to live in Milan.

Go with something neutral or easy... Nico, Luca, Emma, etc. Save your sanity.

LokisUnderpants · 21/09/2016 22:19

Oh and avoid Rocco. All Italians associate it with a porn star of the same name.

SwedishEdith · 21/09/2016 22:34

I like the boy's names especially Gabriel and Dominic. I like Francesca but think your other girls names are a bit wet.

Gabrielle/a
Isabelle/a
Pia
Cristina
Julia / Julietta
Rosa
Miranda
Calista

My favourite boys name are

Hugh
Emmett
Gerard

I also love Maeve

BigGreenOlives · 21/09/2016 22:45

Daniel would work everywhere. Not Rafe, Ralph.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2016 06:01

I was going to suggest Cara.

Love Dominic.

Rinceoir · 22/09/2016 07:49

Cara is lovely too.

CocoLoco87 · 22/09/2016 08:04

Rafael / Raphael
Angelo
I like Dominic and Matteo

Hoppinggreen · 22/09/2016 08:10

How about Alfredo/Alfie?
Lucas could also be Luca.

We are an English/German family who spend a lot of time in Spain so we went for Oscar as it works in all 3 languages.

Stilldreamingofsun · 22/09/2016 08:47

So many lovely suggestions here- thank you all! Unfortunately DP has objected to Luca and Matteo 😩 However, I think we are starting to come around to Dominic. It works well in Ireland, Italy and the U.K. It's classic and strong and goes really well with our surnames. Also, the nickname in Italy is Nico which is so cute. 👍 As for girls, most people seem to like Francesca, which again works with our surname and isn't a wet name. Thank you for all the input- this has been really useful! Xx

I was going to suggest Dominic, as well.
