Thoughts? I'm Japanese, DH is English. It means cherry blossom. Would it be pronounceable in the UK? DH thinks so, but just want to double check Smile

Easily pronounced and pretty. I already knew what it meant because of this.

I think it's definitely pronouncesable in the UK, not too dissimilar to Satsuki.

There is a lovely Japanese restaurant of that name in Liverpool- went years ago for dh's birthday and had a fab evening!

SlinkyB · 17/09/2016 22:29

Forgot to say I think it looks and sounds very pretty for a girl's name Smile

Buscake · 17/09/2016 22:31

My daughter's best friend is called Sakura. They are in yr 1 and no one has a problem pronouncing it, maybe sometimes slightly different intonation. Her parents (mother is Japanese) says SAkura and teachers say saKURa. It's a beautiful name with a lovely meaning.

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2016 22:32

It's lovely.

It's beautiful! I don't think there would be any issues pronouncing that.

user1474133579 · 17/09/2016 22:41

Thank you Smile

Do you think it will be okay with an English surname?

I thought it looked Japanese. It's lovely.

Speaking of names, User, you could do with a proper username for yourself! Have you had any thoughts?

Caldini22 · 17/09/2016 23:07

Very pretty name & I think it would go well with an English surname :-)

enchantmentandlove · 17/09/2016 23:33

What a beautiful name Smile

Buntysoven · 18/09/2016 02:00

Such a gorgeous name.

AGBforever · 18/09/2016 02:11

gorgeous name. I don't think we could have got away with it as no japanese heritage but as pp says most english folks have come across the pronunciation in lush so no worries there. go for it

Sophronia · 18/09/2016 11:43

It's lovely and the meaning is great

IPityThePontipines · 18/09/2016 11:45

Yes, it's a lovely name and it will sound fine with an English surname.

Glitterkitten24 · 18/09/2016 20:17

I don't think I've ever seen such a unanimous 'baby name' thread!

FunionShmings · 18/09/2016 20:27

Love the name Sakura. What about Kimi, Mai or Maiko, Ami, Hana etc? They're all easy to pronounce and have lovely meanings in Japanese?

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 19/09/2016 00:37

What a lovely name!

ElvenMoonwings · 19/09/2016 23:11

It's enchantingly lovely and different but appropriate, and I don't think it's difficult to pronounce.

Brokenbiscuit · 19/09/2016 23:27

It's lovely, OP. I think you'll get some minor mispronunciations, but nothing too far off - probably just an over-extended and over-emphasised second syllable.

I miss doing hanami in Japan!

Mol1628 · 20/09/2016 07:16

I know what it means from the lovely lush products too. It's a really nice name.

TheForeignOffice · 20/09/2016 07:21

Very nice, I used to live in Tokyo so it brings back lots of happy memories. I also like Hanami the same reason!

newtothenet · 20/09/2016 07:26

Beautiful name, beautiful meaning.
