I'm not pg but came across this very old girls' name. I think it means "resurrection". I think it's lovely but probably a bit too weird. Opinions?

no. I don't know why, but no.

SpeckledyBanana · 16/09/2016 22:57

It doesn't really sound like a name for a person, to me.

I know an Anstice Hall. It's a building.

Angiepoise · 16/09/2016 23:00

I think it's also a surname which would probably explain the building.

It sounds a bit like a medication - sorry!

Uricon · 16/09/2016 23:02

A quick Google says a form of Anastasia.

I don't hate it, but it might be a bit...out there

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 16/09/2016 23:03

I like it. I also like Annis, which I came across in a 30s novel, but DH thought it was too much like Aniseed.

Oly5 · 16/09/2016 23:04

Awful
Sounds like armistice

HoratioNightboy · 16/09/2016 23:06

I really like it. It's a very old form of Anastasia but it's really only survived as a surname, e.g. Toby Anstis. A pity, I think.

BettyCrystal · 16/09/2016 23:07

Toby Anstis

A little bit medicinal... but I love Annis! Never heard it before.

FlysInDreams · 16/09/2016 23:38

Annis was my great-grandma's name.

Sophronia · 17/09/2016 00:45

I prefer Annis/Annice

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/09/2016 09:11

No, but love Annice.

Jooni · 17/09/2016 16:06

I know an Anstice! It is indeed a very rare medieval form of Anastasia, meaning "resurrection". I've never met or even heard of anyone else with it as a given name, but there is at least one out there.

It's not my style, but it's not a million miles from Alice, so I don't think it's too weird. To me, it has the same kind of serious, slightly fusty, delicate-but-sturdy feel of names like Constance and Clemency.

Angiepoise · 18/09/2016 01:56

Jooni glad to know it's still being used! DH says "weird" so I won't be resurrecting it...

I know a building called the Anstice. It's in what has become a suburb of Telford and we used to have a painting of it. If I heard a child called Anstice I'd have a strange mental picture.

AGBforever · 18/09/2016 02:48

sorry, I would assume an autocorrect of armistice too (depending on how it was presented obs)
