Alessia?

DH is Italian and we have an Italian surname, and we'd quite like an Italian first name to go with it.

What is your initial reaction upon hearing the name Alessia, and how would you instinctively pronounce it? What do you think of Ally or Essie as nicknames?

Middle name will be Serafina.

Any thoughts or opinions would be much appreciated x

I would say Al-Essss-Eh -Ah,

strawberrybootlace · 16/09/2016 23:01

Al ess eeh ah.

Once knew a lovely Alessia so like this name very much. Love Essie, not keen on Ally.

SoftSheen · 16/09/2016 23:03

Alessia is a lovely name, especially with an Italian surname.

To me, Lessie seems the most natural shortening..

babyinthacorner · 16/09/2016 23:11

Love it! It's on our shortlist, and I wish we had Italian connections so we had more justification to use it!

WankersHacksandThieves · 16/09/2016 23:17

I know a little one, it's Ah less ee ah. mostly known as Messy :)

villainousbroodmare · 16/09/2016 23:19

Lovely. I like Serafina a lot too.

badg3r · 16/09/2016 23:23

I would pronounce it a-leash-a but only because that's how the only person I know with the name says it. I think it's nice.

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/09/2016 23:30

Al-less-EE-ah

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/09/2016 23:30

Sorry posted too soon.

I like it!

sparechange · 16/09/2016 23:31

My friend has one! Al-less-ee-ah
Shorted to Lessie
It's a lovely name

pieceofpurplesky · 16/09/2016 23:34

There are many pronunciations of Allessia/Alicia.
I teach ...
Al-ees-e-a
Al-eesh-a
Al/ iss/e-a

All correct (I just get mixed up as two are in one class!)

Amalfimamma · 16/09/2016 23:36

Al essss e ah

It's a nice name but a bit over used in italy at the moment IMHO . it's usually shortened to Lessia or ally in italy.

If DH is italian he'll be into his feast days and st Alessia is 17 July

I prefer Serafina tbh

CodyKing · 16/09/2016 23:48

Alessia

There's 3 in nursery - it's the next Lilly or Eva

Sophronia · 17/09/2016 00:48

I prefer Alessandra

Blackpoollassy · 17/09/2016 00:51

It's lovey. DD was almost Alessia too.
I'd say Al-ess-e-a

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/09/2016 09:09

Beautiful name, Al-ess-ee-ah.
Essie for short, don't like Ally.

allegretto · 17/09/2016 11:13

Maybe it's overused in Amalfi but I live in the north and I don't know any under twenties called Alessia. I like it.

Amalfimamma · 17/09/2016 12:19

allegretto

Really? Here it is really overused. I think it's been in the top 20 ISTAT for the past few years too and is gradually falling.

North they do tend to use "foreign" names more though. Here it's all about the Saint

akorda · 18/09/2016 20:34

Lovely name-I know one 6 year old with that name. Hers doesn't tend to get shortened.

Go for it!

GoNorthDarren · 18/09/2016 20:45

It's nice, but I love pp's suggestion of Alessandra. I also love Antonella. I really like Ally as a nn. Lessie would probably be the first nn to spring to mind after Ally.
