Sister for Catherine

So, we've just found out we're having another girl.

DD is Catherine Mary Eva (all family names). Surname is a lot like McDarmie. I want to avoid repeating an initial from our immediate family, so no names beginning with C, S (DH) or L (me).

I guess we like more traditional names. We don't want anything in the top100 names (Catherine is 260ish!) Something longish that has a number of different nicknames would be nice! DH is Scottish.

Middle names will be family names - most likely Margaret and/or Linda.

Current ideas are:
Alexandra
Bryony
Eilidh
Esther
Frances
Georgina
Juliet
Rebecca

Any opinions or other ideas? :)

i like Beatrice , Adelaide or jane but Caroline is nice

Overthinker2016 · 14/09/2016 23:58

Esther

Or Hester?

I also like Helena or Elena

Overthinker2016 · 14/09/2016 23:59

Also Caroline (nn Caro)

And Susannah I do like too

Pemba · 15/09/2016 07:20

It's a very classic name, so maybe Alice, Eleanor, Helena, Anna or Julia would go well?

I like Caroline, but even though it has a different sound, it does look very similar to Catherine written down, so could cause confusion.

Pemba · 15/09/2016 07:27

Oh I see you wanted a long name. Elizabeth is the obvious one but you rejected that, so what about

Francesca, Isabella, Christina? Or Margaret (although personally I don't like it much, it's classic and has lots of nicknames). Very Scottish too!

ShowMeTheElf · 15/09/2016 13:37

Elinor Margaret
Can shorten to Ellie, Ell, Ella, Lin, Nora,
Margaret (which I would use as a first name) shortens to Margie (with a hard G; v. Scottish) , Margie (soft G, not Scottish), Margot, Marg (as in Simpson).

I particularly like Alexandra, Georgina and Rebecca from your list and I think they would fit your criteria the best. Don't like Bryony much - well it's OK.

There's also Anastasia or Victoria.

So, just thought I'd update - dd2 was born on Thursday 12th Jan, 9 days early, and we have finally today agreed to name her Frances Linda Margaret (dd1 was 2 weeks late so we thought we had a little more time!).

Two middle names as they are mine and dh's mums and we couldn't really have one and not the other - also dd1 has 2 middles so it matches :)

Congratulations OP, great choice of name. 💐

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 18/01/2017 21:21

My sister is Juliet. My name might begin with C. They go well together.

Cosmicglitterpug · 18/01/2017 22:20

Congrats
