Felicity?

So I was pretty set on the name Alice Eleanor, but with 3 weeks to go I've started to like the name Felicity.

DH isn't so keen.

What's everyones thoughts on this name? It's not in this years top 100 (that I can see) and I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

Felicity and Alice were on our list for DC3 along with Verity and Penelope.

Didn't suit him though!

StarOnTheTree · 13/09/2016 14:17

I love it as long as it's said correctly. It's becoming more popular where I live and it's pronounced without the 't' which is just awful.

DD3 has a name where the 't' is often dropped and she hates it. Especially when teachers do it Hmm

HairsprayBabe · 13/09/2016 14:21

Just ask him immediately after the birth, he won't say no to you then Wink

Greenteandchives · 13/09/2016 14:25

Lovely name. I think it means Happy.

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 13/09/2016 14:27

I don't like it. Sorry. Sounds to fussy to me....

i8E314 · 13/09/2016 14:53

I really dislike it. Its meaning is nice and i like Felix, but Felicity does not lend itself to any shortening at all which is not smutty or ugly.

DogsAndCatsAndThings · 13/09/2016 14:57

I love it better than your original ideas

midsomermurderess · 13/09/2016 15:13

It"s a bit prissy and Fliss and Flick are just awful.

HettyB · 13/09/2016 16:05

I love it. Couldn't get DP on board but I think it's a lovely name.

MrsGsnow18 · 13/09/2016 20:26

I can't explain why really other than not liking the usual shortenings but I'm not a fan of felicity.
I much prefer Alice.

woopywoo · 13/09/2016 21:48

We have a Felicity Faith. I too hate the NN 'Flick'- she is usually Fliss, Flissy, Floss or my dad calls her Filly!! Never met another one and she's seven.

Muddlingalongalone · 13/09/2016 21:51

I love it. DD1 has an "y" name though so that ruled out using it for Dd2 as I'm not a fan of matchy names.

CitizenBloom · 13/09/2016 22:02

I'm with your DH. I find it sort of prissy and mumsy. I think it's a Barbara-ish sort of name. Alice and Eleanor are lovely.

0pti0na1 · 13/09/2016 22:41

I like Felicity but really dislike the nicknames, which sound a bit contrived and prissy.

Pemba · 14/09/2016 02:48

It's OK, but maybe a little bit fussy? Whereas Alice Eleanor is gorgeous. I know Felicity is more unusual.

AmeliaJack · 14/09/2016 03:33

HairsprayBabe that's a really, terrible, terrible suggestion.

I know someone who did that to her DH. She got her own way because he was embarrassed and under pressure but his first moments as a Father were tainted with terrible, unexpressed resentment.

He has to live with a name for his DC that he doesn't like because his wife deliberately manipulated him.

I'm not sure he's ever really forgiven her for it.

HairsprayBabe · 14/09/2016 08:08

It was clearly a joke Amelia get a grip

AmeliaJack · 14/09/2016 13:05

It's not funny if you actually do it though Hairspray.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 14/09/2016 13:29

Tbh, unless the mother was particularly aggressive and unpleasant about it, or had form for bullying and manipulating her partner then I sort of struggle to understand someone's first moments as a father being "tainted with terrible unexpressed resentment" because his child's mother asked him if she could pick the name for the baby she had just given birth to. He could have just said no surely, if he felt so strongly about it.

Anyway, to me it was clear that hairspray was trying to make a joke. As if any normal person would be calculating enough to think "hmmmm, I've just pushed a human being out of my vagina / undergone major abdominal surgery. I'm exhausted, in pain and I've just met my beautiful baby for the first time, but never mind all that I want my own way, so I'm going to manipulate my partner into letting me have it". That would take an astonishing level of detachment.

Thanks Stevie I guess didn't realise that some people on this site were humorless joy sponges.

TheFace · 14/09/2016 14:09

I knew you were joking @hairspraybabe (Apologies if I've not tagged you correctly, I'm new to the site really)

I have an Alice Eleanor! She's amazing.

I like Felicity and it's been on our lists before, but something about it is a little fustier for me than Alice.
