Ava, Edie or Bay for a girl?

Really struggling to choose our baby girl's name... DH and I like Ava, which is a top 10 name, Edie, a top 200 name and Bay which is a top 1000 name. So all quite different

Ava.

Edie is lovely

I like Ava best of those.

You could always combine Edie and Bay... eBay Grin

According to Dn it means 'before anyone else' Envy

Every day's a learning day - didn't know Bae stood for that. Thought it was lazy slang for Baby. The Sentiment is the same though I guess. Still makes my skin itch though whatever it means Grin

Bay reminds me of ponies. Plus there's the unfortunate 'bae' thing that's popular these days.

I love Edie.

ptsleslie · 13/09/2016 11:04

Have to agree with others - not keen on Bay - just sounds like "bae" to me! Edie is adorable, reminds me of balamory! It's not common but isn't unheard of or weird.. Which is perfect imo! Also Ava may be common but it is beautiful!

softboiledeggs · 13/09/2016 11:13

If I ever have a girl I think I'm stealing Edie.. Lovely name Smile

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 13/09/2016 13:29

Oh no I really like the name Bay. Gutted to learn about BAE. Now you mention it I guess I have heard people call each other BAE but thought it was short for babes (ew) or baby.

If it wasn't for that^^ I'd say Bay, but as it is I would go for Edith nn Edie. If you don't want Edith I'd go for Ava, as I don't really like Edie as a name on a birth certificate personally. I find it a little cutesy.

CancellyMcChequeface · 13/09/2016 14:30

What Stevie said about Edie - it works better as a nickname for Edith. My favourite from your list is Ava, though. I don't like Bay at all, it seems like a random word rather than a name.

Thanks for all your feedback everyone. It's good to get everyone's opinion. Looks like Edie is the winner so far! Was expecting Ava to be everyone's fave, so nice to see an outsider can beat a more popular name. Do love Edie, but was thinking people might think it a bit grannyish so it's nice to see that's not the case! Like Ava too, but was worried she might have several in her class, although still lovely name... Also thanks to alerting me to the new 'bae' phrase, didn't know it meant that at all and was a new 'thing'. Am obviously very out of touch ha ha! That names definitely out of the running now. Optiona1 - hilarious, if I call her Edie bay, eBay would make a very funny nn!!
Will keep you posted with what I decide!

Can somebody explain the 'Bae' thing to me?
Is it 'boy' in an accent ?

MitzyLeFrouf · 14/09/2016 10:30

It means 'before anyone else'. As in 'I love you all above everyone else in my life'.

MitzyLeFrouf · 14/09/2016 10:30

You're my bae.

ImAMorningPerson · 14/09/2016 10:30

Bay reminds me of that awful fucking word all the sheep are using "Bae"... So no to that one for me.

Ava is cute but Edie is my favourite, I know a lovely young lady called Edie so for me it has good connotations.

SorenaJ · 14/09/2016 11:36

I prefer Ava. Bay is close to the Danish word for poop (for the same reason I dont like bae).

Propertyquandry · 14/09/2016 11:43

Eeedieeeee(th) (shouted by Madame Fanny La Fan! Love it!

Seriously, Edie is fab!

KarenLF · 16/09/2016 11:53

Absolutely Edie! It's gorgeous.
As many others have said above - not another Ava!! There are just way to many of them around right now for your wee one to stand out.
Not sure on Bay, I wouldn't say absolutely no but if you really love it then who cares what other people say. Although the thing about Bae that someone pointed out is quite a good point.

DietCockBreak · 16/09/2016 12:03

Ava. Edie is a name for a 90 year old (or Edie McCreedy on Ballamory) and Bay is really, really awful (sorry but it's just not a name and shouldn't be one, horrible).
