Disgraced reality 'star' has ruined my perfect baby name!

A popular baby name website has thoughtfully included on the list of famous people who share the perfect name we have picked out for a boy Sad I had previously seen headlines relating to this person's antics, so I knew he was dodgy, but didn't pay attention to his name. Since discovering that my baby would share this person's first and middle name, and googling what he has actually done, I feel sick and don't think I can use it now.

DH and I have been trying to come up with alternative names, but there aren't any we like as much as this combination. Our 20 week scan is on Friday, and we'll be finding out the gender, but I don't want to go without a name in mind. Girl name is sorted. No dodgy connections Wink

WWYD??

I worked out who you meant from your description but I couldnt even think of his name until it was mentioned, so I dont think you need to worry. I would not mention this worry again, incase you have to family and friends, and they will forget and it wont be an issue.

Good luck for you scan Flowers

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/09/2016 11:15

Unless it's a very unusual or made-up name that people are instantly going to associate with whoever it is, then I honestly wouldn't worry. Not everyone is remotely aware of every bit of celebrity gossip/scandal anyway.

EreniTheFrog · 07/09/2016 11:15

Like the PP, I am utterly obsessed with the Duggars and their genre. But despite that - I wouldn't associate such a common name with the scumbag. We've got both a Josh and a James in our family, and I've never connected them in my mind. Please, though, don't call your baby Jim Bob, Spurgeon or Mackynzie, though - people might Grin

BendydickCuminsnatch · 07/09/2016 11:18

Oh goodness I think the vast majority of the world have no idea who the Duggars are, let alone their kids' full names! Do it OP, nice name.

SatsukiKusakabe · 07/09/2016 11:18

I worked it out from the description too, but he is only vaguely known over here (only heard of him on MN) and there would honestly be zero association with that combination of names. Less than zero.

Joshua James is fine and lovely Flowers

BendydickCuminsnatch · 07/09/2016 11:18

Yes if the name was Spurgeon my mind would go straight there!! Grin poor Spurgey.

flibbidygibbet · 07/09/2016 11:21

Beautiful name. Never heard of this other guy and I have a guilty celeb gossip habit!

All the best with your scan and rest of pregnancy

MrsHam13 · 07/09/2016 11:21

I have no idea who that is. I have heard of the Duggars but only on here and I don't know who Joshua james is.

Puremince · 07/09/2016 11:22

Joshua James is lovely.

I think James is one of the most popular middle names for boys at the moment, I really don't think that combination would make anyone think of the Duggars.

Havingkittens04 · 07/09/2016 11:23

Thank you all again, feeling emotional and a bit silly now reading your responses, damn pregnancy hormones and lack of sleep Flowers Blush

Use it op. I watch the duggars on tv always have bought that josh duggar was slimy but I wouldn't make the connection at all and one day their 15 mins of fame will be up anyway.

EreniTheFrog · 07/09/2016 11:28

I think that by the time your DC is old enough to be teased by his peers, Josh Duggar will have been long forgotten.

regularbutpanickingabit · 07/09/2016 11:33

Oh bless you, no wonder you are feeling vulnerable. Please please don't let this mar your scan. Hoping everything goes well for you and I am so sorry about the loss of your baby boy.

Clutterbugsmum · 07/09/2016 11:37

The thing with 'reality stars' is that unless you watch their crappy shows you have no idea who they are.

So I would say probably 99% of people haven't heard/watched the Duggar's so would have no idea who they are.

skyyequake · 07/09/2016 11:37

I've heard of Josh Duggar and what he did, but I had no idea his middle name was James! Honestly, without the surname no one would make that connection... They're both such popular names too, I think it's a lovely combination. My cousin is a Joshua John and it suits him very well Smile

I worked it out from your description but didn't even know Josh Duggar's full name was Joshua James. It's a classic name that doesn't stand out as his. Don't worry about it. I hope all goes well with the scan.

TheLastRoseOfSummer · 07/09/2016 11:48

I've never heard of him. I googled him and still had no idea who he was.

And even if I had, it wouldn't occur to me.

ParadiseCity · 07/09/2016 11:57

I thought it was Freddie Star Grin

Its a lovely name you have picked, don't worry. My DD shares a name with someone who was sadly murdered and my DS shares a name with a very unsuccessful thief who is always in court. I only know this from google - it has never ever cropped up IRL.

Honeybee79 · 07/09/2016 11:59

Never heard of him - use the name if you love it.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.

DocMcFanjo · 07/09/2016 12:02

Lovely name. Never heard of the Duggar family.

Havingkittens04 · 07/09/2016 12:03

Sorry to hear that you've been there too, Dixie Flowers

I'm sure I won't give two hoots about my current anxieties come January if/when I get to bring him/her home x

A quick Google has told me that DS1 shares his name with a leading Behaviour Analyst and a country music band. Also a men's clothing shop in Wembley.

DS2's first and middle names are also the brand name of a "Novelty Sheep Range" Grin.

Nothing much for DD - just links to various baby naming sites!

My point being, that unless you are blatantly naming your baby after a celebrity (Elton John Smith, Philip Schofield Smith etc. etc.) - people are incredibly unlikely to register any connection at all. Especially not with a lovely, classic, popular name like Joshua James.

My GGF was a Joshua James incidentally. Apparently, he was a jolly nice and very respectable man Wink.

Best of luck with your anomaly scan OP. It was at an earlier stage, but I had a MMC in 2010. I went for my routine 12 week scan expecting to see a baby on the screen, only to be told that my baby had died at around 8 weeks. Luckily, we went on to have DD in 2011, but I definitely remember the increased nerves and worry leading up to her 12 week scan.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 07/09/2016 12:17

It's a lovely name (I am part biased though Wink and couldn't give a shiny shite if MN thinks a name is blah). I have only vaguely heard of the Duggars, mainly through here and I had no idea his middle name was James. It's not a name that would be associated with him as it's a classic. If it was something like Cliff Richard Smith (or whatever your surname is) then you would have a point about association Grin disclaimer, I know he hasn't been found guilty of anything.
