Donovan or Conell

Which do you prefer? Surname is Irish (very)

Always liked Donovan, DH prefers Conell.

I love conal. I think I prefer that spelling - to me, Conell looks like it should have the emphasis on the -ell part as in con-ELL rather than con-ull.

I'm Irish and know a few Connells. Its def pronounced 'con-al' but I've only ever come across spelling with two ns before

Doesn't really make a difference to how it's pronounced though. I think it's a lovely name (however it's spelt as there are several variations) I prefer it to Donovan.
Although Donovan is nice too and could have Van as NN.
Con as a NN is lovelier in my opinion though.

Used to have a boyfriend as a teenager called Donovan! Called Don for short. Love it but I was seen as a really republican name.
Conal is spelt like this! Connell is a surname. Lovely name too. Good choices

Connell is my favourite of the two (spelt that way as it's the only spelling I know of it).

Conal is the usual spelling for a first name, and in a surname it would be double n and l (i.e. McConnell, O'Connell).

I like both but not so keen on Don as a nn (I loved the singer though!).

I'd expect Conal as a first name to be spelt like this.

FWIW I quite like Conell but would pronounce that CO-null (as in conman) as opposed to COH-null (as in cone).

Also Irish and reckon Conall is the correct spelling. Double n and double l is the surname Connell.

Yes Conall or Conal and I prefer those to Donovan. Be warned though there are 3 separate pronounciations to the Irish name Conal. Connell, Cun-al and Cone-al.

Although thinking again Cone-al is probably more Cónal (like This ) although I have seen people drop the fada (accent) for the easier life.

Both Conalls I know have the double L. It's nice, I prefer it to Donovan.
