Do you think it goes with an Irish surname like O' Connor or does it sound silly?
I like a lot of Italian and French names too but most just don't sound right with the 'O' bit.

I love it. And I want to watch Green Card now...

Lovely! Goes well with O'Connor and I'm sure would go well with another Irish name too.

Green Card is a good film. Very funny.

The main character and her siblings are named after authors.

Bronte and her siblings: Colette, Austen, Lawrence and Eliot.

I love it and know a lovely 25 year old of that name. Goes fabulously with the Irish surname

Thanks for your positive comments. Not seen Green Card, will look it up.

It is very popular as a first name here in Australia, both my children have a Bronte in their class.

Both those girls are Italian looking though and have surnames that really go with their first name. I don't think Bronte Murphy would work for me.

It is a lovely name though and the girls I know are very sweet.

I haven't seen Green Card in so long! Wonder is it's as good as I remember. Weren't her siblings also given writers' names too?

I'm not a massive fan of the idea of Bronte as a first name though. It's not the most elegant sound. If a name can be lumpen well then Bronte is a bit lumpen to me.

squoosh · 05/09/2016 13:17

Ah I see QueenLiz remembered the siblings' names! Smile

Speaking only about whether it goes with an Irish "O'something" surname - I see no problem with it whatsoever.

monkeygone · 05/09/2016 13:19

I've also never met a dog called Bronte.

I've never met a human called Bronte either.

Or any animal, come to think of it.

I love it.
