Cooper or Sullivan?

Surname is in my username - I prefer Cooper but DH is leaning toward Sullivan. I'm wondering whether he'll get called Sully for short...

Thoughts??

Cooper, yes probably end up as Sully.

Haworthiia · 01/09/2016 12:42

Honestly? Not keen on either. Both are surnames as names which I'm not keen on.,

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 01/09/2016 12:58

Cooper. Sullivan is horrible.

BoboBunnyH0p · 01/09/2016 13:00

I like both, sorry no help. I like surnames as names, my DS has one.
Yes as he gets older his nn is likely to be Sully.

Tiggeryoubastard · 01/09/2016 13:04

Both fucking awful. Give the poor kid name, not another surname.

VioletBam · 01/09/2016 13:05

Tigger that's just rude. Obviously OP likes the names.

OP I also think Cooper is better than Sullivan. Also...is your surname Geebee?

PartiallyStars · 01/09/2016 13:08

Sullivan will definitely become Sully.
I am afraid the first thing I thought of with Cooper was that it rhymes with Pooper, but I do have two young sons who can make anything toilet related.

crayfish · 01/09/2016 13:09

Don't like either but Cooper is marginally less terrible.

TheCraicDealer · 01/09/2016 13:09

I normally dislike surnames as first names but have to admit, Sully is a cool nm. I know a dog called Cooper and that's really putting me off that one.

DramaAlpaca · 01/09/2016 13:23

I think Sullivan is much better than Cooper, and Sully is a nicer nickname than Coop.

MrsHughesCarson · 01/09/2016 13:32

Sorry, I don't like either.

CakeRattleandRoll · 01/09/2016 14:42

Sullivan, with nn Van (as in Morrison).

sonlypuppyfat · 01/09/2016 15:06

Are you naming a puppy?

LemonBreeland · 01/09/2016 15:09

I have a Cooper who is 9. He loves it and so do lots of people he meets. I do like Sullivan too.

Tiffany101 · 01/09/2016 15:44

Between these two names my vote goes to Cooper.

PhoebeGeebee · 01/09/2016 15:46

lemonbreeland - thanks for that, great to hear someone else who has used this name and likes it.

puppyfat and tigger - thanks for your well meaning responses. There are plenty of names that I think are fucking hideous but would never tell someone that. Naming your child is so subjective you're never going to please everyone, but glad you took the time to give me such constructive feedback Grin

I like both OP, Sullivan slightly more. Like pp suggestion of Van as a nn too.

I also like Sawyer too. I wouldn't take too much notice to some of the comments, on here Herbert, Hector and Wilbur rule.

sonlypuppyfat · 01/09/2016 17:59

You are welcome anytime I can help

inaclearingstandsaboxer · 01/09/2016 18:02

I have a nephew who is called Cooper. It is a family name.

I love it I think I am lemons sisterinlaw

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/09/2016 18:05

I really like CooperSmile

Pinklily1 · 01/09/2016 18:06

I prefer Sullivan. Someone suggested Sawyer too - that's nice as an alternative (if you are open to them of course!).

Strokethefurrywall · 01/09/2016 18:12

I'm biased as I have a Sullivan! He's 2 1/2, gets nicknamed Sully or Van.
I love it, he's got an Irish first name by virtue of being a Paddy's day baby and our Scottish surname.

The only comments we've had have been "wow that's a very cool name".

But you either like surnames for first names or you hate them.

Obviously I prefer Sullivan over Cooper but I like Cooper too.

LoraLoves · 01/09/2016 19:57

Love Sullivan. Absolutely stunning.

Jeannekepis · 01/09/2016 19:59

Neither is to my taste, but Cooper is the better of the two.

MrsGsnow18 · 01/09/2016 20:12

I like Sully as a NN ( I watched a lot of DrQuinn Medicine women years ago and loved Sully Blush Sully was his surname though)

Generally though I'm not a fan of surnamey type names.
