Madeline or Madelyn?

Hi, how would you spell this, we want it said Mad-eh-lyn? But would like to stay clear from Madeleine as it's not the English alternative, and I know my family would never spell it like this, if they were just told, so wonder about other people. Mumsnet seem to know and prefer 'original' spellings, but I'd like to use the English version Smile however, would Madeline always get Mad-eh-line? Madelyn is very popular in the US, but not so much the UK, but would it make it easier?

LESS traditional.

You can see the English spelling here in this poem by Keats
www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-and-poets/poems/detail/44470

Written in 1819, so not exactly 'new fangled!'

Note that he has rhymed it with 'divine' and 'mine', though.

These threads are brilliant.

OP: I want to give my DC-2-b an offbeat name - what do you think? And by the way, when you all come back with the exact* comments the DC will contend with for the rest of its life, I'll refute them to the bitter end. Thereby wasting everyone's time, and saddling my baby DC with a PITA name that everyone warned me about, into the bargain. 👍🏼

My Adeline is pronounced Add - eh - lynn; nobody has spelled it incorrectly yet but occasionally do assume it's "Add-eh-line", which we expected and aren't bothered about. Think I would pronounce "Madeline" with a "line" bc I grew up on the children's cartoons!

Madeline and Madelyn are pronounced differently, IMO.

Madeline is Mad-eh-line rhyming with vine at the end. As in, the little red-headed French girl from the books.

Madelyn is a trendy spelling of Madeleine, pronounced Mad-eh-lyn or Mad-eh-len.

Adeline, as far as I'm aware (and I've known three) is pronounced Ad-eh-line too, not to rhyme with Madelyn.
