Just wondered what the general consensus on the name Teddie for a girl are?

Cute or too cutesy?

Teddie on the birth certificate, no longer name.

its dreadful and sounds like a item of lingerie.
Theodora is good though.

AnnaMarlowe · 29/08/2016 14:33

Not if used as birth certificate name. Give the child some options if she isn't a "teddie" type woman who would be

Honeybee79 · 29/08/2016 15:44

Hmm. I think Teddie/Teddy is a nickname only, eg for Theodora. Otherwise doesn't give her many options as she becomes a grown up!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 29/08/2016 15:49

Agree, far too cutesy, especially with the ie ending. Give the child a proper name on her birth certificate or at the very least, as a middle name (but NOT Mae/Rae/Sue/Pink) so she has options when Teddie becomes embarrassing.

OlennasWimple · 29/08/2016 15:56

QueenBean - I agree - upper class, well educated Teddie is a barrister, lives in Fulham but frequently visits her parents in the Cotswold where she is a member of the local hunt. Her best friend hangs out with Pippa Middleton, and they occasionally all bump into each other at Wimbledon and the polo.

GirlOverboard · 29/08/2016 16:16

It kind of sounds like a pornstar name to me. Theodora is really nice though. I would have that as the full name and Teddie as the nickname so she has more options when she's older.

PurpleDaisies · 29/08/2016 16:17

I don't like it at all sorry.

Is your friend a mumsnetter? It's a pretty distinctive name. Aren't you worried she'll see this thread?

PurpleDaisies · 29/08/2016 16:18

Oh hang on, ignore me. She's asked you to start the three on re reading your comment.

MrsGsnow18 · 29/08/2016 16:24

Theodora is lovely! Not a name I ever thought of.
I'm not a fan of Teddy In general. I find it just too cutsey and is becoming very popular.
But her child, so she gets to choose!

BertrandRussell · 29/08/2016 16:26

Too cute and too cutesy- adult women do not want cute OR cutesy names.
And it's a boy's name as well.

villainousbroodmare · 29/08/2016 20:56

Nope.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 29/08/2016 21:51

I'm small and have always looked young. Having a little-girl name would have just been one more barrier to being taken seriously.

Sophronia · 29/08/2016 23:54

It's awful

JinkxMonsoon · 30/08/2016 00:02

Nope.

Adding -ie to a boy's name doesn't feminise it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/08/2016 00:22

Awful as a given name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/08/2016 07:36

It's a big no from me, Theodora nicknamed Teddie, is fine.
