Thoughts?

Came across this name in my ancestry and I've fallen in love with it.

I worked there when the company was RACAL , they merged with Thomson and became TH (start of Thomson hence the hard T pronunciation) AL (end of RACAL) ES (engineering systems).

We had a whole hour long presentation about the new name Grin

My uncle works for Thales so I'd have to say no as a dc name.

BatmanLovesMarmite · 28/08/2016 10:53

As in Thales of Miletus?

As long as you pronounce it correctly, I guess. So not 'Thails'.

Cami12 · 29/08/2016 05:16

I don't like it I'm afraid. As others have said, to me it's just a big old corporate company. Pronounced Ta-liss. Like calling your baby IBM. Ok not so badSmile. But if you google the word Thales it's the first thing that comes up.

SmallBee · 29/08/2016 05:21

I like it, never heard of the company.

Although I'm not always a huge fan of names ending in s, as it can end up sounding like you have more than one Thale. But in this case not so much.

Mouthfulofquiz · 29/08/2016 05:52

If it's a Greek name it should be Thay-Lees not Thails. Either way, poor kid will have a lifetime of telling people how to spell and say his name.

Caipora · 29/08/2016 06:47

I quite like it pronounced properly. If it was a common name people would know how to say it and wouldn't associate it with the company, anymore than they associate Philip and apple.

Depends if you feel like reinstating a name and teaching people how to say it correctly.
