Leon...?

Any thoughts?

Pronouncenames says it's pronounced as Lee-ON, with the emphasis on the second syllable, but that's not right is it? It's LEE-on (or Lay-on, depending on the country I suppose), but definitely not Lee-ON, right?

Do you think it's a nice name?

Love it

roob314 · 26/08/2016 16:37

like it but prefer Leo by far.

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/08/2016 16:38

Love it.

CalebWomble · 26/08/2016 16:39

Much prefer it to Leo.

Trying to say it to work out the emphasis - I think both syllables are fairly equal?

CharminglyGawky · 26/08/2016 16:40

I love it, I think I agree with you on pronunciation but it seems a very subtle difference to me. I wouldn't say Lay-on except for the female version of Leonie which I love even more!

MrsGsnow18 · 26/08/2016 16:42

Lee- on is how I would pronounce.
It's a nice enough name but I just associate it nowadays with the car (seat Leon)

I prefer Leo but I'd pronounce it Lee- on with the emphasis on the first syllable

Roomba · 26/08/2016 20:21

Love it (I have a Leon!). I say LEE-on but I know many people from other European countries would pronounce it Lee-ON due to their accent (or even Lay-ON). LEE-on is the standard UK pronunciation though.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 26/08/2016 20:40

Love it!

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 27/08/2016 20:35

Love it too! Would pronounce Lee-on unless told otherwise.

skankingpiglet · 27/08/2016 22:24

I'd pronounce it LEE-on too. I really like it, and it would have been on my list of boy's names but it broke our rule of "no exes" Sad The bloke in question was definitely not worth losing the choice of the name over!

Cami12 · 29/08/2016 05:31

I love it. Very cool. Much prefer it to Leo.

roob314 · 29/08/2016 08:03

I couldn't compare them.

Leo has a classic, centuries-old Papish solidity to it.

León is Spanish for Lion, it's trendier. More specific to an age group.

Funny how one little letter n can change so much.

monkeygone · 01/09/2016 23:49

I like it a lot.

villainousbroodmare · 02/09/2016 00:39

CatyB · 02/09/2016 07:38

Leo is a nice nickname and I bet everyone's going to call him that. I do think it's LEE-on, and I like it as a name very much.

Nonameyet1 · 02/09/2016 09:00

I don't love it tbh but seems like the majority do. That's the joy of names, we all have such different opinions.

LaurieLemons · 02/09/2016 09:04

Love it, would have been my DS's name but sadly my friends boyfriend is Leon so it would've been too weird. I've told her they can't ever break up now.

Also not too weird but not popular either.

isitseptemberyet · 03/09/2016 13:49

i like Leon, but excluded it bcos pple kept saying it was a bit chav, sorry !
