What are your thoughts? Don't know what I think and if it'll work. We already have 2 dds. Any other options would be appreciated a lot, I like Finn but am stuck! Thanks X

Thank you for peoples' alternatives that's very helpful, love Dante but it's a friends ds and xavier can't be used with our surnameSad Also love Elijah and Idris, Cuba just goes quite well with our surnameConfused

Love Cuba.... Cute name!!!

Barefootcontessa84 · 25/08/2016 08:52

OP I think the issues mentioned with Cuba (the country) by another poster are pretty widely understood... It's not a country I would want to associate my child with.

Motherfuckers · 25/08/2016 08:55

Very harsh sounding. Not cute and quite boring.

3littlebadgers · 25/08/2016 09:01

I think if you like it, go for it. The children growing up around him will think of Cuba as his name first, before the country.

wobblywonderwoman · 25/08/2016 09:08

I know one and it is fine but I think the are loads - hundreds of nicer names

Porcupinetree · 25/08/2016 09:29

I think it's really nice.

Ratbagcatbag · 25/08/2016 09:30

I know a Cuba. It suits her perfectly and I never think of the country when I talk to her.

CaoNiMao · 25/08/2016 15:28

I get the impression that boys named Cuba don't have parents who know the history of Cuba...

GoldPlatedBacon · 25/08/2016 19:20

Now, if I was the other Cuba mums (the ones in your dds classes) I'd be annoyed if you called your child Cuba. They probably chose it as it was uncommon and didn't want them merging into a sea of Jack, Harry and Olivers.

Also, I think most people are at least vaguely familiar with Cuba's history. It was on the gcse syllabus when I was at school. If you want a country name where the history may not be so familiar (albeit not much better) what about Chad?

Poocatcherchampion · 25/08/2016 19:24

Not everyone just thinks cruel communist dictatorship Hmm some people think beautiful country, kindest people.

There is a Kuba at my dcs preschool. I figured it was from his ethnic background. They pronounce it Kooba.

Seems fine to me
but I'm not a judgy mcjudgepantd

GinIsIn · 25/08/2016 19:27

Hmm, if there's already 2 Cubas in your DD's classes maybe better to go for a different political dictatorship. How about Syria, or Iraq? Or maybe Russia?

Mausageandsash · 25/08/2016 20:40

Think most people aren't keen so maybe I'll have to think otherwise, glad I asked though!

What Fenella said.
Just awful.

CancellyMcChequeface · 25/08/2016 20:49

Kuba pronounced Kooba is a Polish nickname for Jakub, Poocatcherchampion.

I think Finn is a much better choice than Cuba after the country.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 25/08/2016 20:51

A great name for a boxer puppy.

Vixxfacee · 26/08/2016 14:50

I prefer it over the jack, Edwards and Harry's all over this site.
I knew a Cuba with a twin Harlem.

ecuse · 26/08/2016 15:56

I like it. And I am not usually a fan of 'out there' names. I am a Londoner, though Grin.

MrsGsnow18 · 26/08/2016 16:11

Is someone introduced their child to me as Cuba or introduced themselves as Cuba I wouldn't be shocked, I would probably think they were from another country and it was either a traditional name or a shortened name. It does sound nice but I probably wohldn't have expected it to be spelt in the same way as the country.
When I see it written down I just think of the country.
There are other country names though like India and America ( both girls names) so this is not something that unusual.

If you like it OP then use it, you could even spell it slightly differently if you wanted to avoid people thinking of the country.

Vlier · 26/08/2016 16:15

Is it because it sounds exotic? How would you feel if you met a cuban child called england?

Mausageandsash · 26/08/2016 19:33

What could other spellings be that aren't just stupid like cuhyoobahGrin
