Thoughts on Elliot Rose? I'm not sure what other people would think, thank you!

I assumed from the title that you wanted to give a boy the middle name Rose for sentimental/family reasons. Elliot isn't unisex!

WaitrosePigeon · 21/08/2016 21:25

Elliot is bad on a girl, sorry.

SingaSong12 · 21/08/2016 21:44

I'm not keen on Elliot for a girl- only know one man with the name, no women/girls. Does remind me of ET. I like Rose.

GreatFuckability · 21/08/2016 21:44

i really like it, but then i do like boys names on girls. Dylan, Stevie, Evan etc.

firawla · 21/08/2016 21:48

What about Ellis Rose? Similar sound but more gender neutral than Elliot

Bellabelloo · 21/08/2016 21:51

I know a girl called Elliot. I really like it. Go for it!! X

jellycat1 · 21/08/2016 21:55

I reeeally wanted Elliot but DH vetoed it. However I've only ever known it for a boys name and would definitely not have considered using it for a girl. It's a male name with Jewish origins.

CoffeeShop123 · 21/08/2016 21:56

Evan on a girl??

MargotLovedTom · 21/08/2016 21:57

As pp said I also know an Elliotte (female). Doesn't seem to cause any issue.

AntiHop · 21/08/2016 22:03

The character on scrubs was given a boy's name as character's parents wanted a boy.

daftbesom · 21/08/2016 22:10

Another one here automatically thinking of Rose Elliot the vegetarian chef. Her book "vegetarian dishes of the world" was my bible as a student.

wesH · 22/08/2016 10:28

Elliot is a wet name for a boy or a girl. There are plenty of "Ell" names that are much nicer, in my opinion.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 22/08/2016 10:45

I think it's a great name... I love it for a girl!

Jojo13 · 23/08/2016 12:13

I love it!
The only drawback for me would be people shortening it to Ellie which I dislike a lot!

Bamaluz · 23/08/2016 15:32

I met someone recently with a baby girl called Ellya, which is similar but sounds more feminine. Apparently it's Greek, but I'm not sure if I've got the spelling right.

glitterwhip · 23/08/2016 15:49

I think Elliot rose is lovely, very pretty name op ..I do like gender neutral names
Would it bother you if she ended up being called Ellie though? It's possible

crayfish · 23/08/2016 15:51

Elliot isn't unisex. Ellis might be ok though?

QueenLizIII · 24/08/2016 20:57

Elliot is a version of Elijah. It is not unisex.

If you like the Ellie sound there are plenty of names that can be shortened to Ellie. Eleanor Rose is beautiful for example.

I know someone with a girl callen Warren. I dont know why anyone would give a boys name to a girl.

Why not the other way around. How about Sarah for a boy? If not, why not?!

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 25/08/2016 09:06

queen, I was on a thread ages ago having this discussion about why people don't use 'girl' names for boys but use 'boy' names for girls. I personally wouldn't have a problem using a girl name for a boy. In the same way I wouldn't consider John, David or Frederick for a girl I wouldn't use your example of Sarah for a boy. It isn't as simple as 'why not Sarah'? No one is suggesting all boy names are suitable for girls so you can't just pluck a random girl name out of the air and say 'if not, why not'?

A lot of 'girl' names were originally boy names - Lindsey, Hilary, Ashley etc. I don't think anyone would complain about those being used for a girl. There's no need to be rigid about it IMHO. Girl names I think are quite nice for boys include Star, Jean and Ruth. I don't think people would raise an eyebrow in some places. A friend of mine is called Patrick Mary - all the boys in his family have the middle name Mary.

It's a bit harder to find a girl name which would be nice for a boy,as it is hard to find many girl names which are girl names traditionally and not just the girl version of a boy name, so there are less to choose from.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 25/08/2016 09:07

Should be 'fewer to choose from' - grammar fail.

HelloSunshine11 · 25/08/2016 09:17

I really like it personally, but then I don't like overly girly sounding names. If we ever have a girl then Rowan is at the top of my list - I don't have an issue with the concept of a gender-neutral / boys name for a girl at all.

MermaidTears · 02/09/2016 13:43

Elliott is on my list. I absolutely love it for a girl

albertcampionscat · 02/09/2016 13:44

Elliot's about as gender neutral as Derek.

Derekina?

albertcampionscat · 02/09/2016 13:45

Elliott even. Doh.

GinIsIn · 02/09/2016 13:55

It's a bit grim - sorry. Like naming your child Kevin Daisy....
