Like a pp says, it's not uncommon to have surnames as first names in Scotland but I can't say I've ever heard of a Lawson or Lawton (that's not to say you shouldn't use it!) - Things like Crawford, Campbell, Blair, Boyd for example.

I bet he still had those eyebrows though grin]...

Lawson

Not Lawton if you're in London (or anywhere else where the 'T' will be replaced with a glottal stop).

DerelictMyBalls · 17/08/2016 13:28

I really dislike both. How about Dawson?

CancellyMcChequeface · 17/08/2016 14:33

I don't like either, but Lawson flows better. How about Lawrence? There are lots of boys' names that aren't cutesy if you use the longer form - think Alfred rather than Alfie, Frederick rather than Freddie, etc.

TroysMammy · 17/08/2016 14:38

I know a Lawson, early 50's. It really suits him.

You're an adult longer than you're a child so a cute name for a baby is fine but it might not suit a man. Go with what you want.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 17/08/2016 14:42

but you could just call him harry
along with the 10 others in the class....

Lawson better out of the two, I think Wink

Lawson

Lawson

I prefer Lawson

Really like Lawrence/ Laurie too

midcenturymodern · 17/08/2016 16:01

I prefer Lawson.

It's a very old tradition in the North East to give surnames as first names. Robson Golightly Green, for example. People might not like it but it isn't some new fangled trend and to piss on peoples culture by suggesting it is is rude.

LoraLoves · 18/08/2016 23:11

Love Lawson. Fab name!

GinevraPotter · 18/08/2016 23:24

I like Lawson. Not so keen on Lawton.

I definitely prefer Lawson to Harry. Harry is bland and unoriginal, not to mention he will probably share the name with at least two other kids in his class.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 19/08/2016 07:21

Whoever said 'choose a name', there was no need to be so rude. Just because it's not a classical British name doesn't mean it's not a name Hmm

OP if you like Lawson (I would choose that over Lawton as Lawton does sounds a bit made up) then call your baby Lawson. It's not crazily weird that the child would be bullied over it but it is different - in a good way - and it would 'grow' with the child quite well. I can imagine a baby Lawson, an 18 year old Lawson and a 70 year old Lawson

Its not the type of name I would choose personally and doesn't seem a popular choice on this thread but what's important is that you like it, and mainly that your child will be able to live with it and grow up with it without hating it or it sounding ridiculous. Which I don't think it would at all.
