y husband and I are expecting a baby boy later this year. We are both born and raised in London and have Turkish parents. We are thinking of giving our baby a Turksih name but only if it sounds good and is easily pronounced by non-Turkish speakers here in England.

We have gone through every potential turkish name there is and these are the only ones we really like. It would be helpful to us if you could explain why you like or dislike a name as well as we are gathering as much details as we can.

Our front runners are:

Levent (Leh-Vent)

Emre (Em-Ray/Rey)

Another two are on the list are:

Evren (Eh-Vren)

Metin (Meh-Tin)

Thank you in advance!

I like them all aside from Metin which sounds like a drug brand name.

GinAndOnIt · 11/08/2016 12:56

Evren. I like Emre but sounds more like a girls name to me. Do you have a Turkish surname? I'm not sure a Turkish surname would work with a 'Smith' surname or similar

PizzzaTheHutt · 11/08/2016 12:57

Love Emre!

MyNewBearTotoro · 11/08/2016 13:03

I really like Emre and Evren. Metin is okay but I'm afraid I don't like Levent - maybe because I make a lot of bread and it sounds like leaven to me!

bobbinpop · 11/08/2016 13:03

I love the first three! I don't dislike Metin but the others are nicer. All the possible shortened versions that his friends may adopt are also alright: em, ev or lev.

RiverTam · 11/08/2016 13:03

I like Evren best, Levent sounds too similar to Levant for me, Emre too similar to Esme and just don't like Metin. Evren is cool.

I knew a lovely Emre (Only ever met one and I live/work in central London) really lovely name and def gets my vote!

cosmicglittergirl · 11/08/2016 13:11

Oh no, not at all! I knew two in 12 years and the school was 40% Turkish. But it was one of my favourite names. The most common were Baris and Ali.

cosmicglittergirl · 11/08/2016 13:13

I knew about about 4 Cans I think.

parisgellar · 11/08/2016 13:14

Love Emre.

I LOVE Evren. Emre, to my ear, sounds quite feminine (I like it too though)

user1470907786 · 11/08/2016 13:25

cosmicglittergirl, that's good to know... although turkish names are not common in england, it's still nice to have a turkish name that is not overused generally :-)

My favourite of those four names is Evren, beautiful name Smile

Crocodillian · 11/08/2016 13:28

Evren and Emre are particularly lovely

CostaAddict · 11/08/2016 13:29

I have a Turkish friend that has lived in Scotland for many years. She had her 1st baby last year Smile

She really wanted Emre. I love that name!! But as far as I know that was taken by a family member! So he was named Eray (pronounced Er-aye) he suits his name and I think it's gorgeous!

winewolfhowls · 11/08/2016 14:36

Emre is super cute

Horseshoe1 · 11/08/2016 14:52

Love Emre too.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/08/2016 14:56

Love Evren!

cornishglos · 13/08/2016 18:40

Love Evren.

TheOptimisticPessimist · 13/08/2016 18:45

Love love love Evren!
