Amos - for a boy

Hi,

What do you guys think about Amos as a boys name? I liked it a lot until I read on a baby name website that someone thought it sounded a lot like anus. Although this doesn't bother me, I'm worried that it could be a trigger for teasing/bullying at school.

It's the only boys name that both me and DH like a lot, so I feel like a lot is riding on it.

I really like it, the anus thing wouldn't have crossed my mind tbh!

TuppencePenny · 06/08/2016 22:08

I like it I wouldn't think it was close to that crude reference. It's very biblical.

ItchyFoot · 06/08/2016 22:09

Love it! Makes me think of Amos Trask from the Midkemia books and he's a badass

I wouldn't make the link at all. I like it.

villainousbroodmare · 06/08/2016 22:26

It doesn't appeal to me that much but it definitely doesn't have any crude associations , and it's simple and easy to spell and pronounce, and very memorable. If you both like it, then certainly go for it.

Knew an Amos at school (off to go google him). Nice name. No bad name conneratation for me (and all names can have a negative vibe if you look).

idontlikealdi · 06/08/2016 23:15

Love it, certainly wouldn't think anus. I know two old ones and one young and think its a good name.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2016 23:17

I'm pretty good at spotting pitfalls with names/initials and it would never have occurred to me that it sounded like anything other than the innocuous 'a moss'. It's fine.

sk1pper · 06/08/2016 23:28

Thanks all, I've just found out DH likes it because of a character called Amos Burton from a book called The Expanse. Didn't realise it was a Harry Potter character, not a fan myself but all the comments have made me feel much happier with it. Thanks all x

KatieTheVampireSlayer · 08/08/2016 22:27

I came on here to say Amos diggory from Harry Potter too

rainbowrhythms · 08/08/2016 22:28

Amos Diggory...

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2016 22:28

I know one who is 10. He's very cool. I've known him several years and have never made that particular connection.

nooka · 09/08/2016 02:23

Our dog is called Amos (after the character in Emmerdale Farm). We live in Canada and no one pronounces his name like we do, when they call him it sounds more like A - moose, which does rhyme a bit with anus, where we would say it more like A - moss. I'd guess that the site you looked at might be American.

OlennasWimple · 09/08/2016 02:40

I like it

Kids will find rude connections with any name

Amos is only a boys name, isn't it?

newtscamander · 09/08/2016 03:35

Love it

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 09/08/2016 06:00

CatNip2 · 09/08/2016 06:31

Nah, deffo Amos Brearley from Emmerdale, old grumpy man with mutton chop sideburns.

sk1pper · 09/08/2016 07:42

I didn't know there were so many famous Amos's Grin
