Robyn (female)/ Robin (male) ?

I've posted a couple of times on here as really struggling with names! Don't know the sex yet and I have a DS, Charlie. Current thinking is Robyn/Robin for either a girl or boy although more likely we'd use if it was a girl.

Never been a fan of spellings where i's are replaced by y's but in this case, Robyn is definitely female version I think.

I really like Robyn for a girl, and yes I would agree with you that the y in this instance is legitimate.

Oddly I don't really like it for a boy. Not sure why though.

I like Robin for a girl. More modern IMO.

KP86 that's the male spelling though...it looks nicer but everyone would assume she was a boy

Both girl Robyn's I've know we're spelt with a Y. To me, spelling it with an I is the boy way.

Robin is the boy's spelling. Ridiculous to commander it for a girl because it's more "modern" it isn't

I'd agree with you op. Robin for a boy, Robyn for a girl.

I'm not saying it's not traditionally the male version of the name. But since when is that a reason not to use it?

What about people who have named their girls James or Dylan? Are they not allowed because they are "boy" names?

Besides, I'm not the one naming the baby. It's not my decision in the end. Just saying what I personally like.

I think Robyn is actually quite modern. Every robin I know born before 1990 is robin boy or girl

KP86 again I'd assume James and Dylan were boys. Definitely each to their own but not sure I'd like my daughter to be confused for a boy on paper her whole life!

Actually, lots of research shows that she would be at an advantage on paper if people thought she was a boy.

I've got a little girl cousin called Robyn. And her brother is Rowan

I've only ever known girls spell it 'Robyn'.
However, I've known both boys and girls called 'Robin'
So I'm not much help really

I know a female Robin, a male Robin and a female Robyn.

I think if you spell it Robyn it would avoid boy/girl confusion - I've never heard of a boy Robyn. Plus I prefer the 'y' spelling for a girl.

My name is Robyn - growing up in the 80s/90s I HATED it - always confused with a boy's name, always spelt wrong ie with an 'I' and I had the Batman themesong sung at me constantly at school.

Nowadays it's really different and I think it's coming into its own as a cool name. Certainly I like it much more than I did and others seem to as well.

I have a Robyn friend who will be 50 later this year, so although modern it isn't completely new.

I only know Robyn, female and Robin, male.

Dachshund My experience was identical to yours. Also Robin Hood, Robin Red Breast, Rocking Robin, "where's Batman", etc.

Also spelt with a Y and believe me it doesn't stop the boy/girl confusion in the slightest. You may have never met a male Robyn (neither have i) but people still get it mixed up either way.

However now in my 20's I like it and think there'd be less bullying about it now as Batman isn't as popular (not the one with Robin in anyway) and no-one mentions Robin Hood much (was a popular Disney film when I was younger)

I really like it for both a boy and a girl but definitely spelt with a y for a girl and an i for a boy. I've never come across any that don't follow that convention. Yes, of course conventions can be broken but why bother? It makes more sense to use the 'correct' spelling.

I love the name Robin. So much. I have two ex boyfriends called Rob though so it's pretty much off my list unfortunately.
