Teddy: Theodore or Edward

DH and i both like Teddy as a nickname for our little one.

We both want it to be a longer name than just Teddy though. One of us prefers Edwards, and the other Theodore.

What do you think?

I have a Teddy- he's Edward to DS1 and on his birth certificate. We had the Theodore/Edward conundrum too.

I didn't realise it's a common name at the moment.

I personally haven't met many Teddies, but does anyone know if it really is getting far too popular?

Well it's certainly popular. It seems to come out of nowhere too. All of a sudden I've met all these little Teddies.

Edward.
Theodore is REALLY popular at the moment

leoniethelioness · 30/07/2016 22:01

Edward is actually about twice as popular as Theodore...

AlbusPercival · 31/07/2016 09:09

Argh I still don't know know.

Other choices are Max or Henry.

Edward. Classic. Lovely.

If the baby hasn't been born yet, just choose one when he's born. I had my heart set on a name for DS1, but when I saw him, it just didn't seem to fit so we chose something else.

CPtart · 01/08/2016 08:52

Edward in its entirety is lovely.

lastqueenofscotland · 01/08/2016 17:06

Edward

Pipilangstrumpf · 02/08/2016 07:53

Most kids will shorten Theodore to Theo and Edward to Ed.

Teddy isn't really an obvious nickname for either name.

Pipilangstrumpf · 02/08/2016 07:54

Although I wouldn't shorten Edward to anything personally.

gazzalw · 02/08/2016 07:55

Edward

ElodieS · 02/08/2016 10:27

I think it's traditionally for Edmund or Theodore... not that that matters.

I prefer Theodore personally, mostly because I don't like the alternative nns for Edward of Ed and Eddie, whereas Theo is lovely.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/08/2016 10:30

Elodie I though more Ned for Edmund? And Teddy Edward.

ElodieS · 02/08/2016 10:37

I could be wrong; I was thinking of St Edmund Hall College, which is known as Teddy Hall... but no other reference point!

coveredinhopeandvaseline · 02/08/2016 19:06

Both are lovely and both can be shortened to Teddy.
I'd love a son called Edward, but my sister has a cat called Edward so....

Asuitablemum · 02/08/2016 19:08

I love Theodore. Also more likely to end up a teddy at school rather than ed.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 02/08/2016 19:26

Theodore for me though I do like both.

SorenaJ · 03/08/2016 11:51

Edward
