So I seem to like mythical and dog names...

I seem to be drawn to names like Rex and Rufus and Antigone and Cassiopeia. And I like cutesy nicknames from long full names. I have so many names I like but can't seem to narrow it down this time which makes me think I haven't found the right one. If you like these kind of names do you have any suggestions for me? I've sneaked in a couple of my own existing children's names. Please don't bother to reply if It's just to express your dislike, I'm well aware they aren't to everyone's tastes.

Cassiopeia (Cassie)
Persephone (Percy)
Theodora (Teddy, Theo, Tess)
Boudicca
Bonnie
Clementine
Antigone (Tiggy)

Atticus (Attie, Ace)
Thaddeus
Rafferty
Oberon
Wolf
Loki
Icarus (Ike)
Sylvester (Sully)
Perseus (Percy)
Fox
Osiris
Rudy
Osian (Oshy)
Odie

Rex
Cassius
Rufus

Yes olgulitha, I do love Harry Potter! But that's aside, I do just think it would be good inspiration for some of the style names the OP likes Smile

Horseshoe1 · 22/07/2016 21:12

Athene
Artemis
Demetra
Cassia
Juno
Hero

I love all your names! All the others I would add have already been suggested.

My favourite from your girls list by a long way is Persephone (if it was solely up to me it would be top of our list if DC2 is a girl but DH will take some convincing).

From your boys I like Osian best.

Eeeek686 · 24/07/2016 13:38

I love your name lists Op, quite a few (esp your boys) were on ours.... DD2 was going to be a Tiggy or Tabitha so would totally go with either of those Smile, but she turned out to be a he (DS) who is Oberon but with spelling Auberon. Lots of my more 'out there' faves are on your list but were vetoed by OH (annoyingly, but I got my way over DDs name which is really unusual so he got first 'dibs' on DS Grin ) but I wanted either fox, rex, wolf, tiger, Thads, raffi, bear, or odie.... Auberon is shortened to Bear so I got my way in the end! Grin

I'd go with Persephone or Theodora from your girls list. Love Persephone but it doesn't work with our surname unfortunately. Also really like Calliope, which I see has been suggested.

From the boys list, my favourite by a long way is Atticus. Also really like Percy. I'm not a fan of Fox and Wolf so they would be bottom of the list for me personally. What about Otto or Otis?

neonrainbow · 25/07/2016 07:50

Pompadour?!? Whoever suggested that i bet you wouldn't call your kid pompadour?!? Hmm

SkydivingFerret · 25/07/2016 08:04

Some of you people need to give your head a wobble or at least think....would I call my baby that? Is that a good idea?

Pompodour, harbour and debonnaire (sic) are bloody ridiculous

Hopefully · 25/07/2016 08:40

I have a Persephone (Percy) and Theodore (Teddy) and got/get nothing but positive comments on them. Possibly people were just being polite, but lots of people make the effort to say that they really like all three DCs names and how well they go together.

Liz09 · 25/07/2016 09:53

Names that I like:

  • Theodora (I know a Greek Theodora and she's awesome - has always been called Theo for short, although I personally love Dora)
  • Bonnie
  • Atticus
  • Wolf (as a middle name only, though)
  • Sylvester (seriously love this)
  • Fox (again, only as a middle name)
  • Osian (I went to school with a boy named Osian - cool name)
Shemozzle · 30/07/2016 23:52

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Sorry it's taken me so long to come back to it. All the ones suggested that I love unfortunately my OH has already vetoed. He has since vetoed Persephone/Percy too, which is sad as that was definitely top or near the top for me. I'm still totally stuck. I fell in love with Phaedra but he isn't keen. He has suggested Jesse for a boy which is totally different than what we usually suggest but I don't dislike. Still no further forward!

eeeek686 Wow, we really do have similar taste then! One of my dd's middle names is Tiger! Tabitha has always been a favourite, it was my best friend from schools name. It was vetoed previously by my DP but he has changed his mind on some he said no to last time so I will have to double check. must know what your dd'd name is now!

I can't imagine anyone wanting to be called Percy so it's probably for the best that that one's gone.

My dad is called Thaddeus so I vote you go with that.

HerRoyalNotness · 04/01/2017 21:30

@shemozzle I'd love to hear what you went with in the end

HopingForALittleOne · 05/01/2017 00:54

Horatio (Tio)
Hector ( Tor)
Cornelia
Lavinnia
Augustus (Gus)
Octavia
Plato
Aeneas

I love this conversation and names . I know someone who have recently called their son Wolf and another who has called their son Augustus known as Gus ( and first son called Frank). No problems with people accepting the names.

So I would say don't listen to others who don't like the names you are thinking of and concentrate on what you both like xxx

GinIsIn · 05/01/2017 09:23

I love Persephone (Percy) for a girl, but please don't call her Boudicca!!! Shock

GinIsIn · 05/01/2017 09:24

Oh just seen this is a zombie. Sorry - if you've already called her Boudicca then I take that back! Blush

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 05/01/2017 14:32

I'd be interested to hear what you went with if baby has arrived! Love lots of them!

reuset · 05/01/2017 14:43

I'll be extra polite as you've sneaked in your children's names. Grin

I'd only strike Wolf, Fox and Rafferty from both lists, personally.

Cassiopeia or Persephone from your girls names, nothing wrong with those at all. Be prepared for having to spell them out to some people, though I find you have to do that with more ordinary names nowadays, given the rise of variant spellings used.

Thaddeus and Rufus would be my favourites from the boy list.

reuset · 05/01/2017 14:44

Aargh, caught out by a zombie thread!

1horatio · 06/01/2017 11:29

Boudicca, Antigone and Ikarus? No. especially not Antigone. Poor kid...!

However, the other names are lovely!
I'm also going to suggest Leontine/Leontina, Aquilina, Aquila, Andreana, Lavender, Dorothea, Thaddea and Aglaia. (One of those names is mine, btw...)

I really like Thaddeus, btw.

1horatio · 06/01/2017 11:30

Oh no...

If you called your DC Ikarus, Boudicca or Antigone... sorry. Cringe!
