We'd decided on Tabitha, I loved it and have suddenly gone off it (a bit). Dh likes Hattie and Hetty (Harriet and henrietta I guess).

Friend suggested Iona which I like. I also quite like Merryn and Seren. Definitely don't want anything too popular, other than that, I don't know!

Throughthick how do you get I own er out of Iona?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/07/2016 17:45

That's how my friend Iona pronounces it. I naturally assume that's how everyone pronounces it. How do they then?

RepentAtLeisure · 19/07/2016 18:08

I think Tabitha will date. It was nowhere for decades and then there was a huge rash of Tabithas.

And when I hear Merryn I think "Because Merryn Trant had armour. And a big fucking sword."

FatAmy · 19/07/2016 18:12

I like Seren the most out of all of your choices

2nds · 19/07/2016 18:14

My name ends in a and it quietly cheeses me off when people replace the a with er. I'd pronounce the a.

Game of Thrones spoiler - Merryn Trant was a cxxt, he deserved getting his eyes gouged out, just saying......

MiddleClassProblem · 19/07/2016 18:21

You can just name them the nickname version rather than the full name. I know many of my peers with kids are now going for this option. Don't feel you have to go for a longer, more traditional name if you only like it for the short version

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/07/2016 18:25

I like the name Tabitha but as far as the others go I prefer Iona. Didn't realise you are OP on the other thread about Finley so think "Iona Finley" looks and sounds good!

Fwiw rather than Merryn I'd choose Meriel, meaning 'bright sea'.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 19/07/2016 18:26

I love Tabitha!

DaisyFranceLynch · 19/07/2016 18:36

Have you thought about Serena? I think of in the same bracket as names like Tabitha and Henrietta, but it also looks similar to Seren.

I think Tabitha might have been on my list for a girl, but it might have been ruled out by my husband along with all the other Jilly Cooper-inspired names like Rupert and Lysander...

DaisyFranceLynch · 19/07/2016 18:47

Sorry saw you mentioned serenade up thread

trinitybleu · 19/07/2016 18:56

I have a Tabitha and obviously think it's a fab name - only two others in our town that I have found so far (10 years) and one of those moved to the area. Only ever get nice comments, with no pauses or "oohhhh" first Wink She does have big blonde hair though so maybe it just suits her Grin

I also loved Willow, Merryn, Meredith, Imogen and Rowan.

Coffeeandafag · 19/07/2016 19:22

Love willow but dh doesn't. I think it's Tabitha or Finley (see my other thread), or Iona (though mouthful with my surname), or also Wren or Avery - what do you think of them?

LovelyBranches · 19/07/2016 23:56

I prefer Meryl to Merryn (sounds more feminine) and Tamsin to Tabitha.

Postchildrenpregranny · 20/07/2016 16:54

Seren is Welsh for star
