I really want to honour my DH's granddad by giving our son his name as a middle name but his name is....

He's the loveliest man ever and I'd really like to honour him like this but I'm just not sure I can do that to my son!

I don't think middle names have to be cool, or "go" with the other name

I like Donald, good strong Scots name (but like others, I'm in Scotland)

I quite like Milo Donald (though your first name choices are not ones I would have chosen).

My dd has the name of a friend who died while I was pregnant as her middle name. It's not a name I would have used as a first name, or one I particularly liked before, but it feels right that she has it.

Think it was already suggested but could the Grandfather choose a name himself? Eg "grandpops - we think you are ace so would you like to choose a middle name or even use your own?" You might find out then that he actually hates his name and doesn't want it to be used

I used to work in the far northwest of Scotland lots of men were called Donald Macdonald though I don't think it was the best choice but it was almost certainly because it was their grandfathers name

Donald is a perfectly normal name more so in Scotland than England

My brother in law is Ross Donald after his grandad. He loves it.
