Do you like the name Teo for a boy?

tbh it looks like it is missing an H

Artandco · 30/06/2016 07:02

Do you mean Tao? Like the European Theo?

LottieDoubtie · 30/06/2016 07:03

I know one but I don't particularly like it- sorry!

Abetes · 30/06/2016 07:04

Sorry - I don't like it.

NerrSnerr · 30/06/2016 07:09

I would assume you can't pronounce your h's.

EssentialHummus · 30/06/2016 07:12

Like everyone else, would assume you'd screwed up "Theo".

Icecappedpinetrees · 30/06/2016 07:12

I know a Teo. (Tay-oh) I really like it. He has Norweigan parents. I think it sounds beautiful. If you like it, don't let naysayers put you off.

Sgtmajormummy · 30/06/2016 07:19

I might think you're challenging people to get it right, like "Are you cultured enough?" Not a pleasant thing to live with all your life.

Sorry.

SoupDragon · 30/06/2016 07:25

i wouldn't know if it was Tee-oh or Tay-oh (I assume the latter give a PP's comment but it wasn't my first choice of pronunciation)

I wouldn't assume you'd messed about with the name Theo though. Personally I think that's an odd assumption .

SoupDragon · 30/06/2016 07:27

I might think you're challenging people to get it right, like "Are you cultured enough?"

Is that seriously what you think whenever you see a name you don't recognise? there are so many foreign/unusual names about.

Sgtmajormummy · 30/06/2016 07:40

Well, the other posts on this thread are bearing me out, SoupDragon. A lot of guessing and assuming about how to pronounce it.
By the way I have no hangups about my level of culture or foreign knowledge. Smile

Dolallytats · 30/06/2016 07:45

My son has a friend called Teodor (Tee-Oh-Door) who is Romanian. His name gets shortened to Teo (Tee-Oh). I like it and I like his full name too.

Dozer · 30/06/2016 07:47

If you're British it's pretentious and made up sounding:

Raines100 · 30/06/2016 07:50

I would assume it was short for Teodore. I like it!

Lweji · 30/06/2016 07:50

It will just mean you and your son will have to spell it every single time to other people.

Imagine every time you check in at the gp going "Teo, without the h"
Up to you.

nectarini1983 · 30/06/2016 09:03

I love it, but prefer Taio as in Taio Cruz!

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls · 01/07/2016 23:02

I know a little boy called Mateo who they refer to as Teo (pronounces Tayo) but they're Italian.

FlyDragonfly1 · 02/07/2016 08:25

Tiaa (pronounced as Tee-Oh) was an Egyptian queen. So I'd say it was more a female name.
I think a lot of people would mistake Teo for Theo.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 02/07/2016 08:29

We know a teo (accent over the edge, can't do on this phone)
He's half French. Nobody gets his name wrong. Tay oh.
They chose short easy names for their two boys as they have a ridiculously long surname!

AuntieStella · 02/07/2016 08:33

I'd assume it was a European variant of Theo.

Yes, I think you may well have to steer people towards the correct pronunciation as it's possible to read it more than one way.

Or you could go for Taio?
