Alfred is lovely.

Mrsraypurchase · 02/07/2016 19:54

William. Alfie is a pet's name.

IoraRua · 02/07/2016 20:34

Neither tbqh. William just edges it for me though. Can't stand Alfred.

Why are people so rude?! My little boy is Alfie and not that it matters but he is not from the background that has been described in the slightest. Quite the opposite in fact! It just happened to be the name of my much loved grandad and I always wanted my own little Alfie. In a few years to come there will be hundreds of Alfies everywhere from all different backgrounds - it's no different to Charlie / Freddie and I happen to know a few of them that are studying masters degrees!

OP - both names are lovely, don't listen to shallow minded people on the Internet, just go with your heart.

Ps - obviously Alfie gets my vote!

sugarplumfairy2010 · 03/07/2016 21:37

My little boys called billy and thats his name on his birth certificate. Ive never heard it as a cute name and think it will suit him through out his life. It is a family name and im yet to meet another child with the same name.

Scuttle22 · 03/07/2016 21:38

Billy is quite posh well it used to be anyway. Hmm

hippiedays · 03/07/2016 21:43

I don't think either name is posh tbh. I'd have said Billy is quite an ordinary name and for that reason I prefer it to Alfie which is too trendy at the moment.

Definitely put the full name on the birth cert. though.

Maverick66 · 03/07/2016 21:51

Alfie

OliveV · 08/07/2016 15:12

William (Billy)

caju · 08/07/2016 15:40

I don't like either much, but I really hate the name Billy, so I'd choose Alfie if I had to.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2016 15:57

Yuk neither. Both baby names that look silly on a strapping 16 year old.

alphabill · 08/07/2016 16:10

I have one of each, I am really enjoying having my children's name ripped apart on this thread :-(
My strapping 18 year old really suits his name. And he has a job too!
Both names are lovely and classic in their long form. Both are inherited family names and I am really happy with them. Enjoy your Billy or Alfie, which ever you choose.

marblestatue · 08/07/2016 18:42

Alfie

Crunchymum · 08/07/2016 19:13

If it's a choice of Alfie v Billy then Alfie. If it's. Alfred v William then William.

pinkchampagne1 · 08/07/2016 19:24

My 13 year old DS is Alfie William and his name suits him perfectly, as I imagine it still to do when he is a strapping 16 year old in three years time! Hmm

septembersunshine · 08/07/2016 20:15

I know both an Alfie (well several) and one Billy. Both boys at the moment and that is their given names.

I would have to go with William with Billy as a nickname but if I HAD to choose one I would go for Billy over Alfie. Just because I like the sound of it more.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 08/07/2016 21:43

Billy. Alfie's are everywhere

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/07/2016 00:49

Definitely Billy

HappydaysArehere · 10/07/2016 01:15

Do you know the song "Along came Bill". It's from Show Boat and my mother loved it because my lovely dad was Bill. Of course he was a William but always called Bill or Billy.

supersoftcuddlytoys · 10/07/2016 09:19

They're both lovely names OP. I like Billy myself.

MrsGsnow18 · 10/07/2016 15:38

It really is up to you what you name your son! obviously not everyone will like it ( that would be impossible!)
Ignore the negativity though!

NotYoda · 10/07/2016 20:41

Billy

But I'd put William on the Birth Cert. as Billy is maybe a bit cute for an adult and it's nice to have a choice

NotYoda · 10/07/2016 20:42

I prefer Freddie as a NN for Alfred

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 10/07/2016 20:48

Alfie

supersoftcuddlytoys · 11/07/2016 09:15

Yes I agree with NotYoda I had a friend who was christened Debbie, she's always hated it, she changed it to Deborah when she was 20,
