My dad is a Keith, urgh! We are due a DS, who we are naming William. It's tradition to give grandparents' names in the middle, so he'll be William Michael Keith... Is the Keith just awful??

Take a similar name instead. Like Kenneth.

Snapnap · 23/06/2016 17:55

I know two 30-something Keiths, both great and fun people, so seems like a fine name to me!

However, if you're really not keen on it but want it as an honorific, what about Kiefer or something similar?

DontDeadOpenInside · 23/06/2016 17:55

seekingmiracles but the Flash is called Barry Allen Wink

figginz · 23/06/2016 17:57

I like Keith. I named my first car Keith. Smile

Swearwolf · 23/06/2016 18:51

It's only a middle name! I actually think that generation of names is the next to come back into fashion, so when your ds is 18 he will be proud of his super cool middle name. My ds has Geoffrey as his middle name after his great grandad, and i love it!

Pemba · 23/06/2016 22:05

You could be right about that, Swearwolf. When my DD (23) was born I considered Evelyn for her middle name, after my grandmother. But then I thought 'No I can't it's just too old-ladyish.'

And now look! Gazillions of little girls called Evelyn running around. She could have been ahead of the curve.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 23/06/2016 22:47

Lol my brother is William Keith for this exact reason. Actually my other grandad was Bill, parents loved William but as it was (coincidentally) grandad's name they felt they had to put Keith in the middle. He doesn't really care if it helps.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 23/06/2016 22:49

Can you imagine telling your middle aged dad Keith that you called your child Kai in honour of him? Grin

SpecialSnowflake · 23/06/2016 22:57

I had a great-uncle Keith who was known as Kit - could you use Kit instead?

GinnyMcginface · 23/06/2016 22:58

Middle names are surely there for the purposes of piss taking and hilarity?! Go for it!

hippp · 23/06/2016 23:00

Special Kit is short for Christopher

SpecialSnowflake · 23/06/2016 23:37

Hippp yes, I'm aware of that, our Keith was still a Kit however.

MrsBungle · 23/06/2016 23:39

Aaah I quite like Keith! Totally fine as a middle name after your dad.

BrexitentialCrisis · 23/06/2016 23:43

Oh for heavens sake it's not that bad! And there are sentimental, family reasons for it- id say go with it OP, traditions are more important than name fads.
