Isabella or Imogen??

I'm due tomorrow and DH is refusing to discuss names anymore as we really cannot agree. I really like Imogen, he thinks it's boring and not very pretty. The only name we're anywhere near close to agreeing on is Isabella but I'm worried that it's way too popular. What do you think?

I think Imogen is a beautiful name.

Isabella - doesn't sound nearly as pretty.

Mottled · 22/06/2016 22:46

Prefer Imogen but if your DH doesn't like it you could try posting a list of what he does like and see if people can come up with similar style names.

babyblabber · 23/06/2016 08:08

I way prefer Isabella and I wouldn't let popularity put me off. Best of luck!

1horatio · 23/06/2016 10:13

I prefer Isabella. It's really pretty :)
Or what about Isadora or Annabella? They aren't that popular.

TheFace · 23/06/2016 10:24

I prefer Imogen. If Isabella is a bit popular (which I think it is, I know of 3 little ones called that) for you how about something like Arabella or Annabelle? Similar theme but a bit different.

alexandragimenez · 23/06/2016 10:48

Isabella sounds a lot prettier!

BoboBunnyH0p · 23/06/2016 14:43

I prefer Imogen, but I'm biased as that's my DD name, she had the nn Immy when little but going into early teenage years a few friends have started calling her Iggy.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/06/2016 14:46

Imogen is lovely. Much prefer it over Isabella which will get shortened to Bella etc.

99percentchocolate · 23/06/2016 14:48

I think both are beautiful but if DH doesn't like them I agree with Annabel/Annabelle/Annabella - beautiful and uncommon

BananaL0af · 23/06/2016 14:50

Imogen, beautiful name.

Isabella has too many syllables for me.

Snarkmaiden · 23/06/2016 14:57

I prefer Isabella
There's more opportunity for shortening the name and nicknames. With Imogen you end up with 'Immie' and 'Gen' which don't sound so nice.

MarvinKMooney · 23/06/2016 15:02

I love the name imogen. A little girl I know has the nn 'Midgie'. It really suits her!

JennyOnAPlate · 23/06/2016 15:50

Imogen. I know a 6 year old Imogen who is immy for short...really like it.

NadiaWadia · 23/06/2016 17:14

Both lovely names, but I think Isabella has the edge. Are you sure the massive popularity of it wouldn't put you off though?

DerelictMyBalls · 24/06/2016 15:49

They are pretty much the same name.

anaa1 · 24/06/2016 16:10

I prefer Isabella. Didn't realise it's mega popular, but then I have a teenage boy and don't know many people having babies any more! Agree if you can't both go for one of your current two names, that Annabel is similar and pretty (I would say that with my posting name wouldn't I!)

Notso · 24/06/2016 16:20

Imogen. I really love it, it was on my lists for DC2,3 and 4 who were all boys.
Isabella is lovely but there are so many of it and its variants.

Pemba · 25/06/2016 02:16

"They are pretty much the same name."

Not really. They are two different girl's names, with completely separate origins, which happen to begin with the same letter. Would be just as daft to say Sarah and Samantha are 'pretty much the same name'. Or Ruth and Rosie. Or Pippa and Penelope. Etc, etc.

OlennasWimple · 25/06/2016 02:33

Imogen

NanaNina · 25/06/2016 02:53

Isabella IS a pretty name, but in 5 years time classes are going to be FULL of them, and Lily's and Ellie/Ella/Evie. I have a great niece who is Isabella (aged 3) my 16 yr old GD has 3 friends at school called Isabella and 2 of them have a last name beginning with the same letter so they can't be Isabella P and Isabella M - fortunately one is happy to be called Izzy but not the other one. There are SO many pretty names that I'm sure you will find something just as pretty. DGD also has a friend called Imogen (she's very posh) and she's called Imo by her friends which I think sounds a bit weird. But - it's your call. Oh and there's an Isabella just been born next door to my sister!

Just5minswithDacre · 25/06/2016 03:17

Imogen. Gorgeous Smile

Quercus3 · 25/06/2016 11:04

Isabella. Never understood the appeal of Imogen, it doesn't sound very pleasant to my ears. I do like Immy though.

I know a lot of 5 - 8 year old Isabellas and a lot of 0 - 5 year old Imogens.

WreckingBallsInsideMyHead · 25/06/2016 19:35

Imogen

I know far too many Isabella's

GinghamPink · 25/06/2016 19:35

Isobella or Isobel

LeonoraFlorence · 25/06/2016 20:18

Isabella :)
