Having twins!! Boy-girl. Boy's name will be Dawson Gage and two year old big sis named Summer Emilia who goes by Summer Lee. Which name do you like best for our new angel?

First thing I thought was Violent Wren, too! Picturing a giant bird going around terrorising the local park. Anyway... Hazel Wren.

Sophronia · 30/05/2016 21:46

Hazel

katemiddletonsnudeheels · 30/05/2016 21:47

Hazel is my middle name and it's always said without the H, as Ay-Zull, so I don't really like it!

Believeitornot · 30/05/2016 21:48

Not sure about the boys name.... Gage?

SirChenjin · 30/05/2016 21:49

Violet is lovely.

My sister is Hazel - early 70s baby, always hated her name (and the hazel nut nickname she grew up with)

Starslubs · 30/05/2016 23:09

I prefer the name Hazel, but not sure if Hazel Wren flows. Although....It sounds nicer the more I say it.

I like just Wren on its own.

We are from Alabama in the US so certain popularity of names is different. Violet is growing fast in popularity and Hazel is trending now too. We did not pick those names because they are growing increasingly common and are very bothered by the fact. DD's mom's name is Winifred and she is very sick. We both want to honor her and Wren is after Winifred. Dawson Gage is a name we are both very excited about. Gage is after my side, one of my grandpas is named is Gerald and my mother's middle name is Fitzgerald.

Hazel

Hazel is lovely, but i'm not keen on Violet, It just doesn't sound very pretty to me.

TheCladdagh · 31/05/2016 09:58

I'm confused by your reasoning -

Wren is after Winifred ???

because it begins with the same letter and contains some of the same letters in a completely different order?

Gage is after my side, one of my grandpas is named is Gerald and my mother's middle name is Fitzgerald.

Again - what does Gage have to do with either Gerald or Fitzgerald?

I think Violet is a lovely name - I'm less keen on Hazel which was very common where I grew up in the 70s - but I don't think either work at all with Wren as a middle name. Violent wrench (or wench?) didn't occur to me as much as just that Violet Wren and Hazel Wren both sound like actual bird varieties, like Common Woodpecker or Barn Owl.

TheCladdagh · 31/05/2016 09:59

Especially if, as with your other daughter, you actually use first and middle names on a daily basis. I think calling 'Violet Wren' or 'Hazel Wren' across the playground sounds as if you are drawing attention to rare varieties on the bird feeder.

SuburbanRhonda · 31/05/2016 09:59

How do you get Gage from Gerald or Fitzgerald? Is it an American thing?

Most people call them the actual name, no just something with the same initial. So, grandad Gerald, grandson Gerald.

TheCladdagh · 31/05/2016 10:07

Or Fitzy Grin.

Baby Fitzy.

MyNewBearTotoro · 31/05/2016 10:09

I love Violet, it's on my shortlist, but I don't think it goes well with Wren. It makes me hear 'Violent Wren' and imagine an angry bird!

I think Violet with a different middle name would be nice.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 31/05/2016 13:23

I vote Hazel. I think it's a much more gentle name like Wren.
Violet is a bit spikey for me

Porcupinetree · 31/05/2016 20:18

Hazel Wren

MumOnACornishFarm · 31/05/2016 23:04

I love Wren, but I know my DP wouldn't go for it, being ex-Royal Navy. But I think Hazel is muuuuuch prettier and softer than Violet. When I hear Violet I cannot help but think of Violet Beauregarde Smile

AngharadTheSplendid · 01/06/2016 05:33

Wren reminds me of a squawking old blackbird. Hazel is a nut.

Violet is beautiful.

Youranus · 01/06/2016 12:14

Have you thought about Violet Winifred? Sounds beautiful to me.

DerelictMyBalls · 01/06/2016 13:05

Wren is after Winifred? Eh?

disappoint15 · 01/06/2016 20:00

Violet is a really pretty name and I like it very much. I'm not sure about Wren - I don't really think of it as a name, and as others have said it's very close to wrench.

I know naming culture is different in the US and lots of surnamey names are popular, but they are less so in the UK. Dawson Gage sounds, to me, like a measurement tool - 'you'd better check the angle with the dawson gauge' - and also bizarrely like two types of plum (damson and greengage) but you weren't asking about that so it's not really any help.
