Anastasia/Ana/Stacie?

For a boy or girl?

NapQueen · 29/05/2016 09:55

Sabina - Beanie
Annushka - Noosh

Just5minswithDacre · 29/05/2016 10:02

The traditional diminutives? Like Anya for Anastasia, Shura for Alexandra and Natasha for Natalya?

JimiBlue · 29/05/2016 10:36

Sorry I should have said boy Blush

Aleksander - Sasha. Would have been what I'd have wanted if DD was a boy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/05/2016 10:43

Napqueen Annushka is actually the diminutive of Anna.

Prosecco I love it!

I love Max, which works here and over there. And Peter - it's spelt differently in Russian but pronounced pretty much the same.

Watching with interest though - we need something both families (and we!) can pronounce!

Floppityflop · 29/05/2016 10:49

Pavel - Pasha
Evgeniy - Zhenya
Aleksandr - Sasha
Vladimir - Volodya

Trying to steer clear of old man names and names that sound like English girl names...

I can try more if none appeal!

Floppityflop · 29/05/2016 10:53

Is the dad Russian? It's v. common IME for boy to have the same name, so there are lots of Anton Antonovichs, Igor Igorevichs etc.

If dad not Russian could try Russian equivalent of his name.

Penvelopesnightie · 29/05/2016 10:54

Zoe

Floppityflop · 29/05/2016 10:54

BTW Anya is for Anna. Anastasia has Nastya. Not so good in English!

Timofei- Tim. Lot's of Rusian male short names are ending in "a". As mentioned above, , Alexander will be Sasha ( or Sanya, or Shura). Alexei becomes Alesha, Ivan-Vanya etc. I would personally avoid names such as Arseny (Arse inside the name), Vassily (sounds like silly), Nikolai ( reminds of e-coli bacteria), Sergei (sounds like gay). Names like Platon and Luka seems to be popular in Russia now.

Zhabr · 29/05/2016 13:44

Mikhail nn Misha.

disappoint15 · 29/05/2016 14:33

Nikolai - Kolya
Alexei - Alyosha
Dmitri - Mitya/Dima
Pyotr - Petya
Boris - Borya
Anton - Antosha
Ivan - Vanya
Fyodr - Fedya
Grigori - Grisha
Sergei - Seryozha

Can't you just ask your mum for suggestions?

Britnyspears · 30/05/2016 17:06

I love Sasha

Kittykatmacbill · 30/05/2016 18:33

All Russian novels should be a good source of inspiration, no characters refer to each other by the same nick name. Nightmare to keep track of who is who...

cressetmama · 01/06/2016 18:00

Anatoly nn Tolya
Konstantin nn Kosta
