Anybody got/heard of a Winston in the not too distant past?

I suppose you can't go wrong with a famous prime minister :)

TroysMammy · 28/05/2016 15:10

There was a Winston in East Enders.

gingerboy1912 · 28/05/2016 15:13

I know of two dogs called Winston, ones a chocolate lab and the other one is a springer spaniel. Hth

cecinestpasunepipe · 28/05/2016 15:18

Our tortoise when I was a child was called Winston. Other than that, all the Winstons I have met have been of Carribean heritage.

Scoopmuckdizzy · 28/05/2016 15:40

I was thinking of this name yesterday for DC3 but DH vetoed it. I think it's a fab name!

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/05/2016 15:47

Billie Piper's son is a Winston

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/05/2016 15:48

The most level-headed of all the Ghostbusters.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 28/05/2016 15:49

Awesome name. Win is a great nickname.

GiraffingAbout · 28/05/2016 16:59

I adore Winston and would use it if we didn't already have a W name. Wilson is another favourite.

Signoritawhocansway · 28/05/2016 17:34

Aw thanks everyone. Our surname begins with W, so I think it's probably out for us, but I thought of it and decided it was pretty cool!

I think of labradors.

I don't dislike Winston, but we tend to know most people with short versions of their given name, and Winnie would be awful for a boy.

PunkAssMoFo · 28/05/2016 18:18

I wanted winston, but wasn't allowed. I still love, but don't think ds could've carried it off anyway.

Everyone told me it was a dogs name too.

manicinsomniac · 28/05/2016 18:43

I know a 12 year old Winston but he's from a culture where I believe it's a popular name.

I think it's ok.

GottaGetThisDone · 28/05/2016 20:14

Winston was DS2 nickname while he was still a bump - he is now 24 and not called Winston but I kinda wish we had stuck to it {smile]

Ifiwasabadger · 28/05/2016 20:19

I know two Bulldogs called winston. That is all.....

emmaluvseeyore · 28/05/2016 20:27

I babysit for a little boy called Winston. It's a lovely name and really suits him. His brothers are Wilf and Albert.

DerelictMyBalls · 28/05/2016 20:45

A fine name.

mrsschu · 28/05/2016 23:36

Sounds very geeky and naff to me and not in a good way...

Had a cavalier King Charles spaniel called Winston but he was known by his nickname of Wincy. For obvious reasons I could never name a child of mine Winston, but it's not a bad name for a human.

julfin · 29/05/2016 07:25

An excellent name. And you can't go far wrong in life when your nickname is Win.

LolaStarr · 29/05/2016 07:45

I know a couple of horses called winston. Not keen on it as a human name!

barbecue · 29/05/2016 21:04

I like it. Other surnamey names like Harrison, Spencer, Harvey, Archer, Jackson etc. are fashionable so I don't see why Winston shouldn't be a good choice.

Choccybadger · 29/05/2016 21:08

I love Winston! If I'd had a boy, he would have been Winston or Laurence.
We have girls with classic/old-fashioned names - Grace, Eleanor and Alice.
So exciting to be naming a baby Smile

I see it as very different from those names (some of which I'm not a fan of).
