Do you like your name?

Do you like your name? I actually love my name despite a recent thread where it was pretty much torn to pieces. It was unusual for its time (more common now) and is part of the reason I would like to give my daughter a slightly unusual name (for 2016) too.

Curious about how you feel about your name and if it has influenced your thoughts about baby names.

My name is made-upBlushbut I've only ever had great comments about it.

LaurieLemons · 28/05/2016 15:34

I used to hate my name and was convinced I would change it as soon as I was 18, I think my mum made it up and I've never met another one.

Now I really like my name, as I got older I started to appreciate it being different and not just being another Laura or Emily (no offence to any Laura or Emily's, I envied you at one pointGrin).

bellybuttonfairy · 02/06/2016 01:29

I really dislike my name. It's very 70's. I come from a Welsh background and there could have been lots of lovely Welsh names she could have given me.

dogdrifts · 02/06/2016 01:56

Another one that screams 'BORN IN 1970' I may as well have been a Viz character. Ubiquitous and chavvy.
All youse assuming you have given your children unique names should beware though. When we named dd1 no one had ever heard her name before. These days you can hear eyeballs rolling all over the uk if you suggest it on mn. The sad thing thing about the baby naming zeitgeist is that if it IS a lovely name, it snowballs and becomes as ubiquitous as the Sharon's and Tracy's in secondary in 1981.

Atenco · 02/06/2016 03:37

I am perfectly happy with my name, but I was originally called by a double-barrelled name that I only liked once I shortened it. I gave my dd a very unusual name and a common name in case she didn't like her unusual name, very early on she made it be known that she wasn't be called by the common name.

Motherfuckers · 02/06/2016 03:41

I love mine, it was very very unusual in the late 70s and although still pretty unusual it is very cool.

RitchyBestingFace · 02/06/2016 09:49

I love my name - it's a 70s / 80s fashion name and very frowned on here as being dated. But I love it - nothing wrong with being from a clearly identifiable generation. It's versatile, long but can be shortened, can be posh or common, girly or unisex and there are some great namesakes from popular culture. And while it was a fashion name it was never ubiquitous like Emma or Claire.

My sisters have Timeless Classics but our names all work together.

Dog are you a Sharon? That's one of my favourite names.

LetsSplashMummy · 02/06/2016 10:21

I didn't growing up, it is a frilly, girly name and I was a rough and tumble tomboy. There are a lot more names like it now so I might not mind if I was a child just now but it stood out in a sea of Claires, Gillians etc.

unicornthong · 04/06/2016 23:36

Sad to see so many MNetters hating on their names!

I'm an Amy, named after my Nana. I love it Grin

Happy1239 · 05/03/2019 20:16

I love my name. Sophie. It's way better than Sophia!

Twelve8Ts · 05/03/2019 22:28

I have always loved my name. It’s a boys/unisex name and I still get compliments on it today which always surprises me. I’m from a group of friends where there is double of every name. 2 Kates, 2 emmas, 2 Beckys etc, and everyone bar me and one other has the same middle name. A bit like today’s Rose (no offence, still a very pretty name)

SallyWD · 05/03/2019 22:32

I've never met anyone with my name. As a child I wanted something more popular but now I love my name and loving being unique. It's an old fashioned name - strong and pretty.

TatianaLarina · 05/03/2019 22:39

Love it. It’s a classic and works dim or full length.

Was very posh when I was a child, but it has popularised since then which makes it cooler. But not popular enough for overkill.

pearldeodorant · 05/03/2019 22:53

I love my name. Despite it being torn apart on here for being super popular for the last 30 years. I live between two countries and it works in both. It's easy to spell and I just think it suits me. Only drawback was there were 6 in my year at school. Admittedly a girls school but that was unfortunate

idougahole · 05/03/2019 22:56

I hate my name, I think it’s so plane. My middle name is too, and my maiden name was. I chose to take on DH’s name purely because I wanted to seem a bit different. But then gave our own DS a traditional name, although not common for his age group

Niveous · 05/03/2019 22:57

I love my name. Sophie. It's way better than Sophia!

happy for you but surprised you felt the need to revive an ancient thread in order to tell everyone!

SweetButaPsycho · 05/03/2019 23:13

My name is ok. It was fairly well known in the 80s/90s but not too common. Only 2 others in my year group. I hated it as a kid as its the feminine version of a boys name so the diminutive is a boys which annoyed me. I do think my name flows very well with my surname though which is a bonus.

SluggishSnail · 06/03/2019 00:28

This thread is only good where people reveal their name!

Mine is Celine and middle name Angelique, which are French names but I am not French and nor are my parents, and it doesn't go with my maiden name (Bridges) or my married name (Thornton). I don't like any of them.

AlliKaneErikson · 06/03/2019 00:29

I like mine. I was the only one in school with my name but it’s by no means uncommon, and always comes off well in ‘which names do you like/dislike’ type threads on here!

Twelve8Ts · 06/03/2019 09:41

Oops sorry, didn’t notice this was an old thread!

AlliKaneErikson · 06/03/2019 10:51

Doh! Nor me...oops!

3in4years · 06/03/2019 23:09

Not really but that doesn't bother me. I don't like a lot of people's names but I still like the people!
